Do arcades make much money?

I'm looking into the idea of creating an arcade website. I know there is alot of competition, but arcades do seem to be quite popular. Do you think I'd be able to (with work) make $3-5 a day with one? I think I can target it at the right type of people. I think an initial cost of $70-80 should cover it (buying a template, name, and possibly a game pack) with more being invested at later dates. I've checked and found a template I like and a name I like. I'm just curious as to if it would be worth my while, I know I'd enjoy doing it.

P.S - Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I couldn't really find an appropriate one.

most arcade site make good money if they are using ypn.

if you are using adsense, it will be earning 10-20 times lesser compare to ypn.

Yeah, you can make some money from game sites. But the trick is to have something different than everyone else. Also, get a good user database going that you can contact with update newsletters and whatever. That will help you retain your user base.

    Just a thought...

The thing about YPN is it is still in beta. Arcade sites don't really perform well with Adsense but I wouldn't jump on the YPN bandwagon just yet.

The arcade site genre is saturated... You have thousands of those cookie-cutter sites which have the same games as everybody else. That isn't to say you can't make money with them. $3-5 is certainly feasible with an arcade site.

The most important thing for an arcade site is updated content. If I'm going to an arcade site I would like to see something new daily. A lot of webmasters just dump 1000+ games on a site and rarely update it. You have to be "in the know" about Flash games. Signup for webmaster newsletters on those sites that offer Flash games to be hosted.

Don't focus so much on quantity. Because you don't want 30 versions of Snake on your site :)

Of course you can't just make a site and expect traffic to flow in. You have to promote through link exchanges, link dumps, etc.

Arcade sites with adsense can easily bring over $300+ a month if you work hard with it. Think about viral marketing, that's all i'm saying...

Also try bidvertiser as an alternative to ypn if outside us. I would say it is important to be creative with the design to make it stand out from oters, and make sure your ads are next to thumbnail pictures of a well known/loved arcade game as this will get you a lot more clicks. Be careful with the ad-blending though. You can get scripts which allow movie uploads too, and also licences where you are sent game and movie packs each month. Good Luck!

    Hi,

im signing up for "bidvertiser", never heard of them before, but i guess its worth giving them ago. Thanks for the link.

I'm currently getting abou $5 a day from my site, though i dont know how permanant this is going to be -- as its all traffic through thefreesite.com.

My site will soon have over 3000 games, but like mentioned above, this will be a big dump of them. Then i'll have to start searching round to add more each week.

I dont really know how to make a site popular, getting top on google for "flash games" etc, seems almost impossible. and dispite lots of link exchanges, i dont recive many visitors through them.

I'm thinking of redesigning my site, "be creative with the design to make it stand out from oters" -- i'm not using a template for my site, but its hardly a creative design, i dont know if people like it or not.

Cheers for the info guys. Nice post maney ;)
