okay so i have this domain "KeywordForum.com" that I want to develop on. Should I make a sub domain for a blog so I can get some initial traffic? Should I put the blog on the homepage and make a forum subdomain?

Well the domain says KeywordFORUM,so putting a blog as a main page, is like irrelevant.

    In my opinion.

I need something to drive initial traffic to the site...

Isn't blogging the easiest way to get indexed?

I'm actually thinking about doing this as well except for me the blog would be the main site and the forum would be secondary. That way the forum community can be built around the content of the blog.

The blog isn't really important... I just want a CMS to manage all of my initial information to drive some search engine traffic to the site. I think that this would organize the site better

well i think a blog on the homepage and a forum on the sub is better.. you should get more traffic first before making a forum. :)

if the word forum is in the domain you should create a forum as the *mainpage* and add a blog in a subdomain where the users can find Informations collected from the forum

I was thinking of something like this:

    http://www.notebookforums.com/

Not necessarily a blog, just something to introduce the visitors to the industry.

I don't know if SMF carries this function though.

You could use wordpress as a landing page and then install your forum to a /forum subfolder.

Wordpress has some excellent search engine optimization features. Use these features along with a site map generator and you will be getting indexed in no time.

When you install the forum to a /forum sub folder, google will see the /forum folders name as a keyword. I do not care for subdomains, I have heard of too many people have problems with software configuration. Its easier to install and configure using folders instead of subdomains.
