Hi all I am about to test out yahoo ppc, I have used google adwords in the past but mostly concentrate on free methods of promotion however I have heard many people saying that yahoo ppc is proving more profitable and I guess I have to learn it sometime.

Has anyone any tips when promoting with yahoo?

I didnt say that I didnt get good results using adwords just that I concentrate on using free methods.

Only reason I want to try yahoo ppc is because I have heard that there is less competition in certain niches whereas the market with google adwords is competitive.

I would say try it. For some niches/products Yahoo converts better than AdWords, but keep in mind thatYahoo has much less traffic. I usually just take keywords and ads from AdWords campaigns, and see how they do in Yahoo. Then optimize them separately, as what works for AdWords does not necessarily works for Yahoo.
And last but not least do not expect Yahoo to be much cheeper than AdWords.
    Good luck.

From my experience 4 times less. But it doesn't have to be like that. For some campaigns I used to have the same amount of traffic from adwords and ysm because I couldn't afford first page listing on adwords. But don't take that as a rule. Not so rare, ysm first page is more expensive than on adwords.

You won't know anything before you try it yourself. Good luck!

Why not bid on Yahoo's content network?

    Care to share your thoughts?

    Thanks.

Because the quality of traffic is very low, the sites are not relevant and the CTR is absolutely horrible.

    There. :)

yahoo can bring very high quality traffic, but i agree that you will probably get about 25% of google's traffic. there is a high female demographic too so if you're targeting women, it's a good audience. the only way to know if it will work is to test your campaigns. in doing so, if you follow the same guidelines as used in AdWords and your campaigns are converting, you should see pretty good results.

Yahoo is the best i can say, you bid lower than adwords with almost same traffic. Yahoo welcomes newcomers with promotional credits.

It works best if you optimize your Campaigns on Google and then port them over to Yahoo. You can even get a Yahoo rep to migrate them for free usually. Then you just have to go in and do minor tweaking.

Yahoo typically has much lower search volume but for certain demographics it works extremely well.

I think you really need to get on there and test the system for yourself. Depending on what you are marketing is could prove profitable.
Try to learn the system as best possible before going in with a big spend.

Yahoo ppc is very good for ROI its just not an exact method and strategy like google. There are undefined variables. Master those and you are good :)
