I can only display one adunit!

I read through the FAQ, Adcenter's Help Center, and the forums for an answer but I can't seem to find anything about this.

I was just approved for Adsense today so I am starting to put the ads on my blog.

I put a leaderboard along the top and was going to put another, smaller text or image ad along the sidebar. My plan was to sprinkle a link unit into posts (since I can only have one.)

I figured that would be effective, without the page seeming too "ad heavy."

But when I try to ad another text link to the sidebar, the leaderboard goes away!

Anyone have any insight? Adsense says, "AdSense program policies allow you to place up to three ad units and one link unit on any page."

I don't even want three! I just want two.

What do you mean with "goes away"? Do you mean it starts showing PSAs or what exactly happens?

You should not even use leaderboard. Your index template isn't wide enough to accomodate a 728 banner. Use a 468 or move the 728 elsewhere, because in Firefox your whole posts drop to the bottom, leaving just the sidebars up top.

Dude, are you listening to me? Your index doesn't support a giant 728 banner. Your ads didn't disappear, it just dropped to the very bottom along with your index template. Scroll down!

Timothy is "more or less" right. Even if you already had an account it can take a while for Adsense to figure out what ads to serve to you. Setup both banners and give it a couple of hours and check back, I am almost sure that you will see ads in both places.

EDIT: I think Jack is right, the layout seems all screwed up with my browser (opera)

It seems to work to me although you still get PSA's. If you have Google set to just display your background color when you get PSA's it would cause them to dissappear. Also just for your information. Everything gets pushed down to the bottom with IE 7.0 also

I think you have to wait a bit. Because I still see the public service ads. Be patient.

Edit: Damn, someone beat me to it. ^

It shows up fine to me in Firefox and IE but I think it's because of my 1280X800 resolution for my 700M. I'm going to stick in a smaller banner now.

    DOh!

Jackburton, your response wasn't there when I started my initial response. That's why it looked like I ignored it.

The PSA's arent the problem. THe problem is that I still cannot put up more than the banner at the top (I decreased the size but I still cannot put another one in the sidebar)

Okay, now that you've fixed the size issues, on to the ads issue. As everyone has said, it will take some time. Anywhere from a day to two to get ads. It is rather odd that the adlinks showed up and the banners didn't, though, I have to say, but not uncommon. If you haven't already, use the sitemap plug-in, create a sitemap account at Google, and that should increase Google's response time to indexing/sending you relevant ads. Beyond those things, it's really out of your hands. Now all you can do is wait. I suspect it won't take longer than the end of today or maybe even a full hours. I wouldn't worry too much about it, since the only traffic you're probably getting is from people at DP clicking on your link anyways, and trust me when i say no one here will click on any of your ads. :)

P.S. If those articles you're posting aren't originally yours, and you took them from somewhere else, you would be wise to credit them and leave a link back to the original source.

P.S.S. What do you mean you can't put another ad in the sidebar? If you're not getting ads for your 468, then you won't get ads for your sidebar banner, either. Just put them there and leave them until the ads show up. Why the rush rush rush? Trust me when i say you won't become an Adsense millionaire after 24 hours on Adsense.

I'll take it as a compliment that you're unsure those articles are mine. :) They are.

Ok, since everyone thinks I am just upset about the PSA's perhaps I should explain a little. More. THe PSA'a are gone. I now have ads. I always knew that it would take some time for the ads to show up. I am cool with that. I am not looking to make a million here. I just want it to work,

    HOWEVER,

I have submitted the code into my site for two Adsense ad units. Google says I am allowed to have up to three.

One of these units I placed at the header (the now smaller leaderbar).

The other I placed in the sidebar.

Only one will show up at any time.

I had the header one up. I then input the code for the sidebar and the header one just disappeared. It's gone. It's in the code. But it doesnt render. THat's my question.

THat's been the problem the whole time. I have the code in there to have two units appearing, but only one will appear. The PSAs are not the issue.

    Any ideas?

Okay, first of all, you need to learn to distinguish the ad units -- the banners and the adlinks unit. Where is what has gone where and where do you want what to go where?

According to the terminology used on the Adsense page, I take it that what you mean by "banner" is simply a horizontal Adsense unit consisting of several ads. According to that page I can display up to three of these.

I wanted to put one of these horizontal units under the grey banner above the first post. I want to put the other in the sidebar. Currently I have jus the side bar displaying. When the sidebar displays, the one under the grey header disappears. That's the entire problem.

Thanks for the help, guys, but it looks like I can't make myself clear as to exactly what my problem is. I emailed Google Adsense.

For the time being I am just going to display the one column on the sidebar and the link unit in the first post.

There is no such problem. You've either put the codes in the wrong parts of the template or something of that nature.

By the way, you may be only displaying one adlinks (underneath the first post), but your adlinks code is being repeated for every post. Basically you have five adlinks code on your front page; only one is showing, because you're only allowed one adlinks per page. I would suggest you remove your codes from whatever plug-in you are using (Adsense Deluxe, from what I can tell via your source code), before you get in trouble for it. Use Mighty Adsense instead. Read this.

No, I had the code in the right place for the ad banner. I did NOT have the code in the right place for the link banner (thanks for catching that, I have removed it.)

I think it was something even more stupid - I just had to clear my cache to see more than one ad banner. I don't know how that would be it, because I could see one in each location before but I think that was what it was.

If it is any consolation, I do know what you mean. I have a site where I have placed mutliple large ad units, and sometimes the one that is drawn later on the page shows up empty. You can tell it is still there because the space is taken up.

I just figured it meant they didn't know what to show or didn't have enough paying ads to place another ad unit.
