You really want that in a pony tail too... You'd be surprised how easily you can get your hair caught in a biner, or the rope.

Fun stuff... Some day, I'd like to free climb.

 

I used to do the equivalent of free climbing when I was stuck at the bottom end of a bluff on the Brazos and the place I needed to go was above me... but then when I also ate live fish outta the tank in biology class on a dare... and I'm not doing that these days either.

If I free climbed today (or jumped outta a perfectly good plane) I can tell you one thing... unlike MIA in the pic above I wouldnt do either in light colored pants. I dont like heights. I do lots of adrenalin junkie stuff, hell I've been daring rivers to kill me for decades and come pretty close, but beyond para-sailing and gliding (real glider, not hang glider) I avoid sports that operate on the "one slip and you're roadkill" principle. LOL... personal preference. Kudos to those that do 'em, not my cuppa tea.

 

I had a huge fear of heights for the longest time too. Then a friend convinced me to free climb 175' vertical one day. With safety gear of course. Next was 240'. Still looking to do 500' then 800'. These are communications towers of course, some had ladders, some require you scale K braces. At 5' 10", its a reach at times. There's something really exhilarating about it.

I'm more comfortable climbing a tower than a ladder. Something about those rickety ladders and roof tops that are so much less stable. The trick is, if you can get over 30', it does not matter if you are 100' or 1000', its all the same. Its that first 30' that messes with your head.

I wasn't planning on climbing. It was more of a thing like "What, you mean I climb that thing and I get a FREE T-SHIRT? Heck, yeah, I'm climbing it!"

The Army recruiter had a display set up at the Detroit Auto Show. And he just had to make a comment about me getting a free shirt, IF I made it to the top. So then I had to do it. And, yeah, they called me the next week and asked if I wanted to sign up. I'm sure I'll get tons of junk mail from them too. Worth it for a free shirt, IMO.
