    Hi,

I have a large rectangle adsense ad unit on my site that I chose to make the same color as my site. Can someone look at my site and tell me if would be better to keep it the color I have or to change it to no background color or borders? In an article posted in another thread it says "You should make the border color and the background color the same color as your web site". But further down it says white backgrounds with no borders received more clicks. This sounds contradictory.

Also the article mentioned visitors eyes will scan adsense ads that are on the left. Should I swap the position of the 336x280 large rectangle ad unit with the position of the video player on my site?

I'd also like to know if my site elements look too crowded. Thank you.

    My Site is here. :)

I think what they mean is that the borders and background of the ad should be the same as the background of your site or it's surrounding background, and since most sites have white backgrounds... get it?

Okay, now I took at look at your site and I think you've done really well with it! Great integration of ads (IMHO) and your content is hilarious. But you've pulled that via RSS from somewhere right? Great stuff anyway. I love TDS.

Thank you for your review. I can't take credit for the ad integration though. I had a web design redo my original site and they used that ad placement. That's one of the things I was concerned about so it's good to see someone thinks it works. :)

I can't see the ads on your site mate, have you removed them recently or is it that I have some problem here at my end?

Your right hand menu bar seems to be showing at the bottom of the page instead of where it should be...

I'm not sure, but google may be having issues with their adsense ads. I've noticed also that occassionally the ad units either don't bring back ads or some completely disappear from the page. And yet, without changing anything, the ads will show up in a later refresh of the page. At least, I hope it's google and not my site. :(

I can assure you that it's NOT google. There is some javascript error at your page that needs to be fixed.

    Line: 24
    Char: 24
    Error: Permission Denied.

I can see your ad code in the source of the page but something is conflicting with the adsense ad code.

Also you are using upto 8 Ad units on one single page which seems to be the REAL problem. Also do please add a BR tag below every adsense code that you put on your pages or it will display problems just as Darkhodge mentioned.

well, i'm not selecting any channels when i create the adsense codes but i see what you mean. adsense keeps wanting to generate unit codes with the channel line in them. can i just remove the channel line manually?

The referal ad buttons count as ad units?

The "google_ad_channel" part of the code should be left within the javascript code even if you're not using any channels. Otherwise you'd be breaking the ToS by editing the code...

Please correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I understand

    Mike, as per google:

You can place up to three ad units per page (in addition to one link unit and one referral button per product).

Yes you are right Darkhodge, it should stay within the ad code. I was wrong, apologies. :)

I removed the extra adsense units. now there are only three. a BR tag after the top ad unit is seriously messing it up. i tried both <br> and <br /> to no avail.

otherwise, how does it look now?

    Darkhodge,

Thank you for pointing out the problem. May I ask what Operating System and browser version you're using? This will go a long way in helping me fix the problem. Thank you.

Does anybody else have this problem when viewing my site? I hate to prolong the thread but as some might have guessed, it's very hard to fix when I can't actually see the problem on my computer. I spent money on this site and I want it to work.

Also, on a side note, I was visiting someone else's site when I noticed they were also exceeding the recommended amount of ad units per page. How can they do this and not have problems?

    Hey,

Both computers I used to view your site were Windows XP (Pro) and I was using IE. :)

And concerning the other person's site you were viewing - exactly how many units were they using? The max you're allowed per page is 3 content units, 1 link unit, 3 refferal unit (?) and 2 search units (?). The ones with question marks are the ones I'm not completely sure about (I hardly use them so I can't remember...).

Anyway if they've gone over these limits they're breaking the ToS and if Google find out about it there'd be problems...

    Darkhodge,

Then Endurer's post may be incorrect here?:

The page in question had 3 referal buttons on it. I forget the number of content and link units but I think they were within policy numbers. It was just the referal buttons was confused about becaue Endurer said 1 referal button and I saw this other site with 3.

Endurer said "1 referral button per product", which is correct.

I was wrong - I completely forgot that you can refer people to the AdWords program...

So what I'm trying to say with all that cr@p above is that you're allowed a total of 4 referral buttons on a page, i.e. 1 referral button for each product (AdWords, AdSense, FireFox, Picasa)...

Here's what it actually says on the Google AdSense page:
