I closed photoshop accidentally and didn't save the file. Does it keep a cache or something that can return my layout?
I spent all my afternoon working on this, 7 hours gone.

From now on I'll save on even the smallest thing.

Not as far as I'm aware I'm afraid (saying that I've never actually looked into it, so I might be wrong)

I do not think so. It does ask if you want to save when you close it. if you hit no, I think it is lost.

    WOW.
Well this sucks... it was the best theme I had ever done too.
And it's not the first time it happens :(.

I feel like throwing my laptop against the wall.

    Anyway thanks.

I am sorry but there is nothing that you can do except for taking this as a lesson learned.

    7 hours without saving?

I save whenever I have a spare second inbetween doing things.

I also save multiple copies and versions as I go along in case one becomes corrupt or I make an irreversible mistake.

Don't throw the laptop against the wall because then you will be asking us how to repair a broken laptop.

Once you hit 'No' when it asks you whether you want to save your work ... I think its all lost ... so take it as a lesson and keep saving your work at regular interval from now on ....I know how strainfull photoshop work can get ... so better keep saving it .. u'know its the damn windows .. so what it if freezes all of a sudden ..

Lesson learned ;) save your work, its not that hard.
Its always a lot easier the second time, and it will probably come out better. good luck.

But how did you close Photoshop without saving the file? because it always asks you want to save the file or not before closing it.

I don't understand how that happened.

Man I hate to say it but 7 hours without a save, you needed this lesson. First of all I, and most all artist I know save probably every 5 mins or so at least...and secondly, how do you close by mistake but still bypass the warning that the file isn't saved?

    Sorry man,buthopfully lesson learned!

I save so often I'm not even aware of it anymore, it's just some automatic reflex whenever a worthwhile change has been done, which must be around once every few minutes.

And yeah, saving with a new filename after important milestones is also a good practice, as files can get corrupted if you lose electricity or something.

Exactly what I do, before I finish a project I end up with about 10 PSD files for it, when I take a new route, make a drastic color or style change, etc, I will start save to a new name, and in general I will save to a new name after so many times, just in case

    =)

7 hours of job without any single save. For real?

I guess that is a lesson learn to you. Always save your work even it is a small changes. There is no way you can retrieve the file back.
