Curious as to why your trying to design a logo when you have no idea what your doing?

Anyways, what I normally do when I'm trying to design a new logo or something like that is to get out my sketch pad and just start randomly drawing whatever I think the company (or whatever I'm designing for) represents. When I get a bunch of different possible logos I switch over to photoshop or flash and make create digital versions.

I am learning to design a good logo. So your help will certainly be fruitful to me. As per @thefaceless guidance, I have tried to design on paper however, it is not so good design. May be other tips will be helpful.

    Welcome! =)
Next, you should decide what your company is about, what style you want your logo (and site AND branding) to follow. ie- clean, grunge, futuristic, modern, paperdrawn, elegant. Decide what elements NEED to be in the logo (name in text? symbol? etc). and then throw your ideas together.

It doesnt have to be nice on paper, its just got to be the concepts. I'm a horrible handdrawing artist, but its still benificial to sketch something out. even if it looks like this website sketch, not good looking, but its the ideas on paper that will make your designing on PS a lot easier:

P.S. you say your skilled in photoshop and you cant design at all?... Suspicous. You might want to look into just hiring someone. no offence.

Exactly, sketching out concepts on paper is the idea phase and it doesn't matter how good your drawings are, just that your figuring out how you want to do it when you move on into photoshop.

I run a Software Company called Salah Software. I have full-time designers and developers. They can efficiently do the work, however I wish to learn myself so I thought of posting at DP. Everything was going fine, I don't why some people tried to distract the people who were guiding me?

Im assuming i was guiding you? :) welcome lol.

But really, you should look around google for this. At PSDtuts.com and VECTORtuts.com they have numerous articles about the design process. including sketching, colors, styles, putting your ideas on "paper" (or monitor in this case) etc. They're a good read, also dont forget to use google. it is your friend!

In designing a logo, you should based it around what the company is all about. Draw as many as you can on a piece of paper then choose from what you've sketched. Usually for customer service, cool colors are used. Then make at least 5 samples and have your client or other people choose one of those samples. Then make revisions until it's perfect. :)
