[HELP] Shipping from USA to India via FEDEX

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Joomla Developer, Apr 1, 2009.

My friend has bought a NatGeo Bag for me,which did cost him 80$ and he want to send it to me , Assam,India..
He wants to use Fedex for it ,but I dont have Fedex here in Assam.
    The nearest Fedex is Kolkata..

    I have few questions;

    1. He will be charged 80$ for shipping. Whats the Custom Duties ? Are they extra? Who needs to pay that ? He or I ?

    2. It says, they will deliver it in 10 days ,but since I dont have Fedex in my state,so will they get it to Kolkata and send it to me via some 3rd party service like BlueDart or DTDC ??

    3. Will I get the product directly or I have to pay some additional shit ??

1 - no custom below $200.. tell him to mark it as a gift.
2 - use US priority mail... fedex will deliver..
3 - get directly at home

    Bro,you are a life-saver! :D

    OK,so r u sure,there is no custom duties with products below 200$ ??
He was saying that, when filling the form for export , it was asking him to enter some Custom Duties and so he left it and ran away lol..

The weight is 1.4 lbs. Its a small shoulder bag from NatGeo Community.

And what do you mean by US priority mail ?? :)

Ok so whenever it asks for Custom Duties,he can enter 0 there or cancel it, right ??

So,do you want me to prefer USPS rather than Fedex ??

Yes,he will attach all the invoice, his payment slip to NatGeo, my address and my contact details...

    Yes,is that all fine ??

So,all he has to do is fill the from, attach all the documents,my details, pay 80$ for shipping and go back..
It will directly get delivered to me without any more charges from my side..

    Right ?

he has not to do anything.. just fill the invoice...

Duties are charged to you , not the sender.

    Ouch, again im confused..

You said, no charges or duties to me will be there.

The product did cost him 78$ and the weight is 1.4 lbs.

SO,he just have to fill the form, attach the slips, pay them the whole shipping charges and comfirm them that, the 2nd party should not be charged for this.. ;)

Then it gets through and I get it in 5 days..

    Right ?

    yes, yes...

    no...

Indian custom's department will decide if the receiver should be charged or not.. ideally no charge below $200 products.

Just 2-3 months back I ordered few pearl jewelery from a website, location of that site was China. Total cost of the pearls were around $130 something. They marked those pearl items as Gift and thus it saved me to give any custom duties.

They delivered me the whole item within 3 days via FedEx itself.

Also they use to provide tracking no. from which you can easily track the delivery timings etc online via their official site fedex.com/in/

Rest I would say ask your friend to confirm all details from the FedEx office of that particular country he belongs too.

I had purchased a Harddisk from ebay and I got it shipped from Fedex, I told him to mark customs as $50 and send as Gift, I had paid Rs.800 for it as customs duty along with fedex charges, on the reciept it was written that Customs Duty is Rs.300 and Fedex Charges Rs.500 which equals Rs.800.. Fedex charge high customs, I guess if he writes $50 as the bag price and sends as gift, you might be charged about Rs. 200-500 as customs on bags is less, also remember that Fedex charges for Freight, Conveyance etc. So the delivery guy might charge you..

I have a lot of experience of Fedex and USPS, If he sends from USPS then you might get the product for free.. more questions are welcome

I had paid Rs. 1.2k as customs for $160 PC Motherboard.. There is nothing like no customs below $200

Sure, but fedex is good because if will take you only 3 days to arrive, USPS Express will take around 5-10 days and USPS Priority takes about 14 days, Don't use USPS Priority because the customs hold those parcels for a long time.

Fedex is Cheap in Time and USPS is cheap in Cost!

Its service of United States Postal Service (USPS).

Wherever Fedex is not available, they have tied up with local companies to take on deliveries. like Blue Dart in Gujarat.
