Social Bookmarking vs Directory Submission

Which do you think is better for SEO and promotion?
100 social bookmarks or 100 directory submissions?

Does one have an advantage over the other?
I have the feeling social bookmarks will get a new site indexed faster but directory submissions give more backlinks in the long run.

 

I prefer to go with the directory submission since most of the social bookmarking sites have no follow attribute enabled and the quality of traffic is poor.

No need to choose one or another, done properly each will take around half an hour to do manually (or 5 minutes if you use software). Don't make either of these a focus though, the best way to expand is to create content and get some webmaster traffic to it so you can get links organically.

 

Directories are still king. Sometimes it can be a real pain placing your site at one of those social networking sites. Directories still rule. Yeah Baby!

 

I like directories submission, the directory submission increase links of the sites and may generate traffics. But, if you have time, do both of them, they both have importance.

With SB, one can use any anchor text and can get deep links.

Moreover, SB can be used multiple times.

You get your homepage with the directories and deep pages with the social bookmarks. The thing with the SB is it's more of a wave of traffic because as soon as it's up it's gone, things move so fast. At least with a directory you (at least you hope) know it will always be there.

 

I ust facebook and myspace and less submission, for i can't find more about my niche, and usually they place into the deep sub directory,so it hard to be found by the visitors either the SE!

Cant choose one of them either of them since both are important for me. Social bookmark to generate traffic and directory to improve my PR. I wondering why dont just go for both?

 

The other adventage is that, the social website has more human traffic, you can connect them and chat with to build good relationshop, have trust is important for a website especially for online shop like us(http://www.sunstar-shop.com), we need quality traffic and orders from it! So i think social websites are more good for us; in the other hand, directory submit is also good way to lead traffic! But i think it is good for SE MORE!

Yeah i agree, do both.

Personally i prefer to not use SB as a back linking exercise, but more as a social networking element. I only use Digg, Stumble, Propeller, Mixx, Reddit and have found that i have built up a small list of followers that will read most of my posts.

 

According to your main aim to decide which is better if you have to select one!

 

With out a doubt do both, it will improve your traffic, exposure and SERPs all in one go!!!
