getting relevant ads back on a page/s that have been mistargetting for a while, or would you just let it be and hope the correct ads return eventually?

The best way is to SEF the Page URL if you can't get on page targetting.

I would say it's better to show untargeted ads than try to micromanage the targeting yourself - the targeting is Google's department, let them handle it.

The problem is, the page was showing perfect ads for quite a long time and then suddenly went offtopic and still is that way after several weeks. I son't think tinkering with page will make much difference as Adsense had no problem recognising the page before the mistargetting.

Qwest, I dont know if this will help, but I was recently moving one of my sites from regualr html pages to a cms (drupal), and I was getting untargetted ads. I changed the title of the post, and viola!, I was getting targeted ads again.

Wrong, why would have them offer up ads that aren't going to convert when you can simply change your page name or title & rectify the situation quickly & easily? Use a 301 redirect from the old page to the new one & done.

I had assumed he'd already done everything he could in his power to try to change the targeting which would include changing the title tag, header tags and the content. Besides, the way he worded it sounded like he originally was getting correct ads in the first place, so the issue sounded like it lay with Google.

    My terrible, terrible mistake. :p

Do you mean you changed the file nameof the page? Would this not affect SERPS for the page though? Or, do you mean you just changed the title at the top of the page. The sad thing the affected page had good CTR.

No, I just changed the title of the post. When the post was viewed on it's own page, it recieved bad targetting, until I changed the name of the post to something more favorable to my site. When I did that, it reverted back to the usual ads I recieve.

i have found that for one of the pages all of a sudden I saw no google ads. It had something to do with the url and not the content. If I put the same content on some other page it showed decent ads.

after a month or two, again .. with no change from my part, the ads have re-appeared. So its not always the content. Yes for most cases, the ads change based on the content, the title and the site.
