Is Sitemap Necessary?

I have read a lot about sitemaps and also that they are important. But a few days ago, I read from a authority blogger that they do not matter much. If your site's navigation is good, you do not need one. In some cases, sitemaps have caused less content to be indexed because spiders just crawl the links and not whole content! Is that true? If I have a good structured site, is sitemap necesary?

 

I heard many times it is not that important to have if you have good navigation my self. I myself do not use a site map for any of my websites and they all get crawled on a regular basis.

 

I am using sitemap but after reading that, I think I will dump it. Can it have any ill-effect?

 

Sitemap is a must if you want to index your website. I'm all the while using Google Webmaster and I think so far is the best tool for index our site. Thanks

 

There is no pain to have a sitemap along with a good navigation. How sitemap could hurt your site even your site has a good navigation? If you use sitemap along with Google Webmaster Tools then it could help you recognize many of problems between your site and Googlebots. It's up to you. If you have decided to dump your sitemap then good luck. I think the effect is neutral, no positive and negative would be given.

 

It make it easy for Google to have access to your site. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site.

I don't use a site map and my joke site got indexed in less than 4 hour's after being first published. i was looking at the stats on my cpanel for a another site of mine and when i checked the joke site googlebot was all over it i was shocked, That was a hour after I published it. My other 3 sites was indexed in 2 day's.. If you have links on pages to other pages of the site besides the navigation the bot's will follow them.

 

why not have one? really it won't at all hurt u, it can really only help!

Sitemaps gets your site indexed faster by google. If you have a google adsense account and submit your sitemap there, your pages will be indexed more faster. I submitted the sitemap the second week of this month. Google already indexed over 150 urls.

 

sitemap is very important, we should have xml and html sitemap on our server so, google bot can crawl all links if any one is missing.

 

iam sure sitemap is most needed to get indexed

 

if you have any new site.and you want that site to be indexed to be fastly.then you have keep site map.
google will crawl your site fastly when you keep the site map.

 

If we add new internal pages and have links on other pages which are already indexed and present on sitemap, do we still have to update sitemap for each page we add to our site?

 

As for myself, I do not take the time to create a sitemap.

I have a navigation column on all of my websites for the ease of use for users, but the by-product is that search engine spiders can easily crawl my site.

Also, I do quite a bit of link building to all of my pages, and the search engine spiders find my pages from external websites as well.

 

Not sure how important they are. However, there are some plugins that make it easy enough to cover your ass.

I have submitted my sitemap 5 days ago but my site is not indexed yet http://deafarts.org/.
It shows me Not found error, I kept the deafault URL structure given by wordpress. Can you tell me how to fix these NOT found errors at google webmaster tools.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Can someone (Supporters of Sitemap) please reply to my question if we have to update sitemap for each page we add to our site if we are updating our site regularly or it doesn't matter? Many thanks in advance!
