    Make sure your hosting supports and activates captcha. (PHP GD). :)
    Usually it is the main problem.

    Require some help on my 1st proxy site which has just been setup within the last 30 minutes hence it is so basic,it is using the glype proxy script on the url http://www.scepd.net which i thought would be fine for a proxy site.A new banner logo is being made tonight and added in the morning the revenue ads for the site will be the very last thing added.
    It is hosted on a dedicated server which is far bigger than the sites will every require but the thing that i am not really sure on is what else do i have to add to the standard script to make it a decent site and how do i promote them,sorry if this may seem like stupid questions but any help would be most welcome.

    Thanks

    What I usually do is check some proxies by other owners, look what they did, and than do the same. Ofcourse not the unique ideas, but when looking to some of the other proxies you could find out they're having a Yahoo/Google group. How their ads are placed, which ads they have on the proxified page and so on ;)

    welcome to the proxy thingy :)
    why stupid ? we are all here to help each other , and most of use are not Proz
    my suggestions :
    let your users surf what they like to
    like facebook , myspace
    and for this you may need to check glype website for the patches ,etc
    installing a SSL certification would do better too
    work on its SEO thingy just like other website like blogs, forums ,etc
    submit to proxy lists , they would bring free traffic Try www.proxytoday.info or www.xp6.info
    and if you need a fast start , try www.Addvertise.info _mine_ this would bring tons of hits

    Both sites aren't working here :confused: Is there any problem? The first one is out of bandwidth, but what happened with the second one?

    @stijnne thanks for the reply that has been a great help,regarding the design of a proxy site does anyone find that they get more visitors if they spend alot of time on the design or does this not work that way with these types of sites,could it be a case of keeping the design simple but practical ??? Any thoughts on this one please

    Just think about yourself, would you like browsing a website with an ugly design? Well proxy users are the same, although they care less about it.

    What they care about is more:
    • Speed
    • A lot ads or not
    • Uptime
    • Does it work with youtube, facebook, myspace etc.

    So if those points are good, than you can have a succesfull proxy! Although there needs to be done promotion before it turns out to be active ;)

    What is a proxy?

    Why would you want a proxy?
    Because you can easily earn some money through it, proxies are/will always be in demand. Just put Adsense(and others) on it, and promote it actively ;)

    I should have my new banner /logo finished later today and upload this evening then i will be working on the adsense/adbrite adverts but what else do i need to do to the site to make it special but simple,i am spending a little time and effort on the banner/logo as it will be a main attraction for people to come back to the site.

    As 'stijnne' has mentioned its more about these features:

    What they care about is more:

    * Speed
    * A lot ads or not
    * Uptime
    * Does it work with youtube, facebook, myspace etc.
    And yes it ticks all the boxes,i have the site installed on a dedicated server with 1 gig connection,4meg memory and 1.8TB storage albeit it does have a few Adult sites on the server but it should cope with the heavy loads that these sites give.

    Will keep you updated when its finished.

    another tip :
    you may also put proxified links to facebook , myspace and bebo
    this would make it easier to use your website to surf these

    i think 'stijnne' must mention this for you lol , cause my tips would be ignored l:Dl

    LoL :D

    What JacobNix means is the following:
    You have the website: http://www.abeboproxy.com for example, well users like to have an 'easy-browsing' menu.. So on the page you can add an icon, and when they click they go directly to the menu by for example the following link:
    http://www.abeboproxy.com/browse.php?u=c8e25d63afedd0fOi8vd3d3Lm15c3BhY2UuY29tLw==&b=5

    That makes it easier for users to surf to other websites ;) Too bad I forgot about that one, thanks JacobNix, I'm going to add it to my new proxies that will be released in about a month :p

    What some advice folks i am running the glype script and JacobNix mentioned about 'you may also put proxified links to facebook ,myspace and bebo' is there a easy way to do this or is this going to be a major undertaking to achieve this or its not really worth it ????

    I am trying to keep the site as simple as possible and reduce the clutter on the frontpage to a minimum,the logic behind that is people only use your proxy as the stepping stone.
