I'm thinking of starting a forum, how can AdSense work?

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by Brian123, Jul 31, 2006.

I am thinking of starting my own forum, and I am looking into buying the Vbulletin software.
What I was wondering, how can you put AdSense on to threads and posts, like this site dose? Is it something that you can do with the software, or do you need to write some code?
I was also wondering if anyone could tell me if you can have a unlimited amount of threads with Vbulletin boards?

    Thanks

Just edit the template you want it to go in (for example postbit).

vBulletin has a limitation of 4,294,967,295 threads by default. That could be raised to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 threads with a simple table change by using BIGINT instead of INT for threadid.

I am not familiar with Vbulletin software. Anyway, try to search for add on mod. Example, my forum ( smf ) have Ad Management Mod installed and i can place google adsence ( or any ads ) base on 6 mode:

Display ads on every page (ontop)
Display ads on every page (onbottom)
    Display ads on Board Index
    Display ads on Thread
    Display ads on Thread Index
    Display ads after first post

    Hope this help.

Phpbb has a mod called inline banner ad, which can be easily used for adsense. But, then we're moving into a vb vs phpbb question... Vb has various options for banners/adsense as well. Here's a search result

Would it also be best to have a landing page before the forum, of just link straight to the forum?

If you would like to allow your forumers to upload attachment, 2-3GB will be a good start. If you disallow them to upload attachment, 500MB is ok. The key here is monthly bandwidth. :)

I think running a forum with adsense capability is similiar to running a blog with adsense, you just edit the templates and insert the adsense code.

I like the MiniBB as its free and looks smart, it just needs a gallery mod.

I am setting up a content site. Will having a forum on the site help me in getting more visitors.
Do repeat visitors of the forum go to the main site?
