One reason I will buy a script package or a specific script is to put on a domain I have and get it live.

Sometimes, instead of buying a website, if you have a domain idle, look for some good script or other content that will fit your site.

A friend of mine just put all his sites up for sale, as he has an emergency that will take all of his bucks to clear up (daughter in bad shape, etc).
So to raise the money for the operations, etc...he is selling some darn good sites (one is up for $25,000).

Just to have an idea, for those who buy websites, how much do you pay for them on average?

To me, purchasing a website just doesn't seem right. It's not that hard to make your own website with similar stuff right?

Divide the cost by the minimum hourly rate you think your time is worth. If it takes more of your time than that to build the site, load it with content, and get it indexed and ranked then buying is cheaper. If you have a good place to use it, then speed is also a factor.

in general right but how about SEO, backlinks, pageranks and regular visitors of an old site?

How much time will take to get all that?
