How long did it take you to make a fulltime living from the net?

    Hi all,

I know its a broad question, but id just be interested to know how long it actually takes people to replace their full time income with income from the net, be that adsense revenue, affiliate commissions or any other source.

When I say fulltime income, lets say average wage for your area - I think at that stage you can relax and really focus on your business, heading for the next target of earning what you would be if you worked as a developer / seo / marketing manager etc.

I think the information below should give us a pretty good breakdown:

    E.g for me:

    Timescale: 3 months
    Number of sites launched: 1
Marketing: SEO / Banners on local portals
Progress towards average wage: 5%..

Figures can be rough, but take your best bet.
    Matt.

PS: I kinda changed the question as I was writing it, thought it would be good to feature peoples progress towards fulltime living too (as mine above).

1 day. I just quit my day job and started working from home. But, then, I'm a writer so I didn't have to build a base for myself like you webmasters do :)

I have been seriously invovled for about 5 months, I have a dozen or so sites but only about 3 I focus on and produce any revenue. I am about 30% toward average wage but I have also reinvested most of my earnings toward the business.

I am hoping to be in a position to quite my day job in another 10 months.

I would never put all my eggs in one basket. I've been doing this full time for just over two years now. Before that it was a side hobby for several years. Working as an insurance agent for progressive made me want to quit my job and do this full time, so I bought a house and quit my job all in the same month. Talk about nerve racking.

The cloaking software you said you weren't affiliated with, but was discovered to be hosted on your server? Why is someone who claims to be making $22K a month spending all their time pitching some software that will get your site banned if google catches you using it?

I started around January and this is my best month so far but nothing is steady at the moment. However, the amount I reached this month was my goal for when I get back to school in September so I seem to be doing alright :)

My goal is to be earning a full time income by year's end. :)

So far very little like 100 a month on average.. i've been developing for other people for years, and doing non-profit sites as well. I want to begin to focus on my own net income and hope to be making 2000/month by August 2007.

I've developed sites and maintain sites at my day job that bring in over $500,000 a year, however I get payed hourly for the work I do there and only make $12.50/hr which is really good for this area, but I only work 30 hours a week on average. I do get good benefits though working for someone else. Like vacation time, bonuses (1000 dollar christmas bonus) severance pay, and other added bonuses.
