What are the most currently sought after computer skills?

I enjoy graphics and design, but too many other people also do it. What are the most currently sought after computer skills (USA, or Internet in general)?

    Thanks

SEO would be one of them if you are looking for something internet related. Programming would be another...
    Bye :)

Well Php is quite popular .. its versatile and flexible.

Ajax is also picking up steam ... and there is definately a need for more programmers here.

I agree with the above. Having a good command of js, with ajax type stuff and php enables you to create basically any kind of website. I've heard programming in assembly is paid well.. oh and networking people make good dough.

Good SEO's a few and far between, every webmater who's ever built some recipricol links seems to be setting themselves up as an SEO nowadays. I don't think most companies look solely for SEOs but Web Marketers that will generate other forms of traffic to their site also.

Apart from that good designers and develpers, PHP and asp.net being the two major ones at the moment.

Great suggestions thank you. DP is a wonderful place!

I learn "a bit of everything", and need to learn to focus on something deeper (unless maybe I go with writing or consulting, then I need the 'wide' knowledge).

    Thanks

Graphic design. Graphic design. Graphic design.

or website design if you like that better.

As an example go on www.gamasutra.com it's a business website for all the game and software development professionals. Register and look up the jobs that are offered. 90% are some kind of graphic design. It's one of the most sought out professions in the market expecially if you're good.

My brother is going to school to do a major in it. Demand for it will only grow, it's a goldmine, moreso than many people realize.

Unlike programming, you really need to be talented to be a designer.

That's a load of crap. Being able to program is an art form if you can do it properly. Well formatted code that is scalable and concise is tough to do. My programmers are some of the most tallented people I know.

If you do it long enoguh, you won't have a problem writing neat efficient code. Anyone can start programming by reading one of those dummy book.

Art is another story...if you don't get it, you don't get it

I would have to say programming. So many people want custom code and scripts these days, and if you do quality coding you will always have work.

The problem I found in the past is finding a decent programmer! I worked with quite a few, before I found my current programmers who do quality "clean" code :)

    Regards
    Neil

Here is an interesting article about Programming Languages Trends based on computers book sales.

Java & C++ go down, RoR, C# and Javascript (because of AJAX) go up
