Use the PNG's everything is moving away from IE6 Also you can script something into your site that fixes the PNG's to be viewed normally by IE6.

I thought the same thing but the more and more websites I develop for clients, the more I realize that a *lot* of people still use IE6. A lot of people still use older computers and either refuse to use Windows Update, don't know how, or don't even have it turned on!

I've developed websites where they looked absolutely perfect in all the modern browsers for Windows and Mac, then get to the clients office or home and find out they are running IE6. The site looks like crap and I look like an idiot.

So now, as a habit, I purposely make sure my sites work with IE6 with no third party hacks - just straight CSS.

I agree that a lot of people use IE6. But screw it!! If you still design with IE6 standards then designing level will not grow. Just use PNGs.

People should seriously get a life and upgrade to IE7/8, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and other real browsers...

Same here. I work at a web development place, and doing fixes for IE in general is bad enough and to realize that a lot of our clients are still using IE6 just puzzles me (even though we try our best to convert them to firefox)

If anything, maybe you can make a script on your site to say that "You're not viewing this site at full potential, please upgrade IE or switch to another browser" or a simple note on footer or splash page.

If your images are small it's fine. The best quality images are PNGS AND BMPS.

PNGs are great for solid colors. Originally the PNG was meant to have the quality of a JPEG with the size of a GIF.

If you are wanting to use transparent images, go with PNGs. They can use True Colors. Also a good time to use PNGs is if you are using solid colors like a graph, chart, etc.

Use JPEGs for photos, in Photoshop choose "Save for the web or mobile" and it will compress it for you.
