Photoshop selection basic question

    Hai folks

    i just draw a selection using that rectangle selection tool.
    now how do i copy that area in to a new layer :confused:

    i just did like this,

    made a selection
    got a new layer
    now went back to previous layer and copied the selection
    now i came back to the new layer and pasted.
    but it past a wrong thing which is not from the selection i made :confused:

    pls tell.

    well make sure the thing your copying has something on it. make a selection, ctrl +c make a new layer ctrl + shift+n and then ctrl v on that layer and you should get what you selected

    i tried, now when i past, it past the selected are but it fill the forgorund color to the new object copied. :confused:

    Well when you have your selection made. You have two options. If you select just copy then it's going to copy whatever is in that selection for "THAT CURRENT LAYER" if you select "copy merged" then it will select everything that is viewable in that area.

    well to make it more accurate you can right click the little box on the layer to the left and select "select all pixels" this well select everything in a dotted line on that layer and than just do ctrl c and v on a new layer and it should copy it. make sure the layer you want to copy is select too! :)

    it is to easy to do

    only select and then ctrl+c then ctrl + v

    it will be pasted in new layer.

    selection with marquee -> Ctrl + C then Ctrl+ Shift+N then Ctrl + V

    or you can duplicate the previous layer and then rename it.
