Whatever it may be the site, when you choose there are few things, you need to consider...

    1. howlong the CMS(Drupal/Joomla/...) will be in market ? u need ppl to maintain it.
    2. how much the community is active
    3. cost effective (more component, less development time/cost)

i think this tips will help others...

We adopted Drupal at the University I work at and it is a nightmare to work with. The Drupal 'language' is completely different from the normal web naming conventions and it's hard as hell to migrate an existing html template into it.

In other words AVOID IT! :)

I can imagine. My colleague has been getting heavy into Drupal and decided we'd redo the company site in it. I think it's doable (though no way in hell would I try moving one template into another!) but that's after like, 2 or 3 years of learning it.

And as a static coder, the idea that someone needs to edit like 15 different PHP files just to add a single tag (a case I saw recently on the Drupal forums) is seriously not convincing anyone about how great and wonderful CMSes and Frameworks are (Drupal is both a CMS and a web framework).

That said, I've talked with people I know are excellent coders and they assure me that one can indeed have total Nazi-like control over Drupal pages. But, again, that would be after spending a lot of time learning Drupal. It is not easy or fast.

Wordpress is mainly a blog, it is nothing but a step-up from using Google's blogger accounts. Every man and his dog has a wordpress blog, it's really nothing special, a bit too simple in my opinion. It's good for an adsense site or a spammy "click on my ads" type experiment.

Drupal is a real cms and suits larger sites with real community participation. You can have a blog(wordpress), forum and pages/articles all in one site. The backend also looks the same as the frontend which is better than the wordpress solution.

If you expect your site to grow beyond just a blog I would recommend Drupal most definitely. The sooner you learn the ropes the sooner you can outperform everyone else. People thinking it’s too hard to use is a good thing, if you don’t mind learning a little.

If your website doesn't has too much author, the wordpress is the best choice, it has a good content management, link structure, pinging, easy templating , and very good for SEO. But if your site is the big site, Drupal is suitable, Drupal can be made to the communitu site like facebook or flixya, it's easy to control any aspect, maintain.. but the unfriendly in the template maybe make many webmaster put off in the first times.

No, not really. There are many free magazine style themes and powerful plugins, as well as some other development besed on WP. It could do so many things than you can imagine. :)
