    Hey guys,

For those out there making nothing (just starting) to under .05 a day, what do regarding hosting? I have found a couple of free hosts, and a couple I think will be suitable for about $4/m. I am happy to pay if need be, but wanted your opinions before I do.

So, free hosting if your just starting out, or paid.

    Also, any recomendations?:)

I would always go for paid hosting. Trying to make money on adsense is all about investing time and money in the short term to make returns in the longer term.

Theres a good choice of sub $20 a year hosting packages, somebody on this forum should be able to reccomend one.

    $0.05 a day is $18 a year!!

I would start out with a cheap (yet paid) hosting plan. Obviously the more resources you have, the better off you will be, and less limited in your design, bandwidth usage, space, etc. But if you need to use a free host, go for it -- We've probably all done it.

I never go for free ones if I plan to generate money from it, too much of a headache.

You should have said that you were hard up for the cash, I would have donated $12 for a years hosting :p

One good thing about using free hosts is that you can interlink several sites from different IP addresses. I have 3 servers in two locations but still use freewebs.com for a couple of PR4 pages mainly for unreciprocated links.

I started out with a free host and upgraded to a paid host before I started making money from my websites. I can afford 4-7 bucks a month even if I dont make any money off adsense lol.

I started out with a cheap plan.. yahoo.. :( sucks later found out. Then I got more experince and learned html. I moved on to godaddy. Found out its terrible. So I learned php/mysql and moved to hostgator where I am happy with a dedicated server :)

Well, I think it might be better to start with a paid ad-free hosting, probably something low cost to begin with.

The people who runs free web host need to pay for providing their service and inevitably since they cannot get money from you would resort to advertising. Some probably would use ad-sense advertisement or the likes to pay for expenses. So having several banners or ads on your pages especially with some free hosting using popups or popunders, it can be a big spoiler for your targetted audience.

With any business, you need to spend money to make money so a couple of dollars each month should not be an issue. Maybe get a reseller account or one which allows you to host multiple websites so that you can host a couple of adsense or other type of sites and make money from there.

Thanks all, you have all pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. I have now found a couple of better plans, for a more reasonable cost.

    Cheers for all your help

If you plan on making money on the net, go paid hosting straight away.

Personally, I'd say get hosting with all of the features you anticipate needing, and nothing free that's ad-supported. It's easier just to pay for it, call it a business expense, and not have to think about transferring hosts later if things take off.
