Don't get scammed with Myspace bulletins!!

I am sick of seeing people getting scammed here. People like jaree, donna-x, symptic and several others are scamming many innocent users with their junk bulletin services.

So, what is this all about?

Simple answer. They are using stolen accounts (phished)

Phishing is cheating someone to enter their login details into a fake website so you can then take over their account. Here is how it works: first of all the scammer gathers up a list of profiles which are very popular, people that have thousands of friends, like music bands. Then they send them messages or emails telling them that their profile has some problems or invent some other BS and send them a masked url, meaning that the url they send looks like it is pointing to myspace, but it really points to the scammer's website. Then he sets up a fake login page, take a look at this one:

Looks just like a myspace login page, but it is fake. I created this one in 5 seconds using a popular phishing page creator that seems to be used by these scammers, and didn't customize the page. Just some simple editing and you could fix the page to look exactly like the real one. When someone visits this page and enters their login info they are screwed, those details get sent to the scammer, who right away logs in the real myspace site and changes the user's password and email, so he will never again be able to log in and just lost his account.

Be careful, people here think that myspace is a magical place that will send them thousands of visitors and make them rich in 2 days and hire all these scammers to send their BS bulletins. Just think about it... you were friend of a cool music band, and suddenly they stop sending you bulletins about their tours and concerts and you start getting links promoting some John Doe's website... would you even bother to visit that crap? That is why those bulletins are worthless, the people that get them don't pay any attention them. Don't get impressed by the hype of these scammers saying that you will be promoted to 150,000 "friends", it is just a waste of money.

Use your common sense, avoid sellers that say that they have thousands of friends, and totally avoid sellers that invend some BS excuse like "I can't give you my profile information because it will get deleted".

And that is exactly what those scammers want, that you just move on thinking "oh, well, it was just a few bucks, what the heck", but then they keep posting thread after thread promoting their bulletin service and keep scamming more and more people. And if you do ask what the heck happened and why didn't you get any decent traffic, all they will say is "oh, well, I sent the bulletin, I guess your advertising text wasn't interesting enough".

The bulletins work a bit...only a bit...Once I *accidentally* got in a myspace account of a swedish model LOL with 4000 friends. Sent a couple of bulletins and brought some traffic. Maybe because she was a model I got traffic cos I never ever sent bulletins from other normal account, but I see everyone tells it doesn't work. Oh well I paid for some in past will never pay in future. Thanks for this post...

Sure, there are honest sellers that indeed have profiles with many friends, but here we are talking about professional scammers that steal accounts and are making a profit from it. Just imagine how would you feel if someone stole your yahoo or gmail account, or your favorite forum account.

Myspace users aren't exactly tech savy and easily fall into these phising scams, that is why these people disgust me.

And even if they did, the issue here is that they are using stolen accounts and getting a profit from it.

Sad to see this forum getting full of this junk.

When people first started offering this type of thing someone gave me a free trial hoping I would endorse it. It was absolute crap.

I have no idea if the account they used was phished though

Just ask them to show the profile they will be using. If it is legit they shouldn't have a problem showing it to you.

Good thread, my first question to one of the myspace bulletin posters was what account would the message be coming from. They told me I couldnt see it and made me feel like im dumb for asking. Why in hell would I pay for something I couldnt see?

The myspace bulletin fad here at DP got old fast. Hopefully these scammers go away just as fast.

btw there are way better ways to make money from myspace than spamming bulletins

This is pretty rich coming from a guy who gets paid to place spyware on peoples computers.

I woud much rather be spammed by bulletins than have to clean up my computer evey day because of spyware.

A "friend" did me a "favour" and had one of my sites advertised on phished accounts, I noticed within minutes because of the load on the server. (I found out a couple of days later how he had caused the traffic)

Phished accounts _CAN_ work, but I wouldn't personally recommend them.

In fact I wouldn't recommend bulletin advertising your site on MySpace at all if your running AdSense on the site.
