    I have Windows 7 Ultimate beta. So far, I like it\'s feel and workability better then Windows XP and it needs less background programs, therefore using less memory. I imagine if I were any other person, Windows XP would be faster, but Windows 7 uses less core programs that use less memory. I only run AVG, Games (Sometimes running steam), firefox and Malewarebytes. No chat junk, no skype, no e-mail programs or anything. I don\'t use them. So, in Windows XP, approximately 375 megabytes of ram were used for background programs. In Windows 7, approximately 40 megabytes of ram are used for background programs. In Windows 7, my video is far faster then in Windows XP as I have the new drivers and things. So, here are my overall non-biased (Gaming not included, as Windows has the market grip) ratings through 1/10 of all the operating systems I have used so far: Windows: Windows 95 - 2/10 Windows 98 - 2/10 Windows 2000 - 4/10 Windows ME - 1/10 Windows NT - 2/10 Windows XP - 7/10 Windows Vista - 1/10 Windows 7 - 7/10 Mac: Mac OS X - 6.5/10 Linux: Fedora 8 - 6/10 Gentoo 2008 - 9/10 KUbuntu 8.10 - 6.5/10 Ubuntu 9.04 - 9.5/10 BSD: FreeBSD 7.2 - 8.5/10

    I guess 29 dollar is for upgrade from previous version.


    Don't believe that, Snow leopard has lot of problem and it made incompatible with 100 programs.

    I don't know where all the good things about WIndows 7 suddenly come from...because I've been using it for like 2 weeks now and...well it's A LITTLE better and faster than Vista, but still takes lots of memmory, lots of incompatibility problems and REALLY stupid M$ "inventions"...

    It's taking up 900 megabytes of Physical memory for me... so I don't think its taking up too much.

    The organization is better and everything was tweaked and improved.

    I haven't purchased the new Windows 7. I've tried the evaluation copy and I thought it was pretty cool, however I switeched back to XP as it was faster on this computer. The interface was nice on 7 though...

    I'm already running a msdn version from Windows 7 (for those who think this is an illegal version, it isn't, love msdn access)

    1. cost lol, none. msdn:)
    2. resources needed ... It is much faster then Windows Vista when I'm running several heavy programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, outlook, Firefox with a lot of tabs, VirtualDJ with a medium playlist and some more small programs together (yes, all of these listed programs together). Windows 7 runs smoothly on just a P8600 CPU an 4GB RAM. Oh, a 500GB @5400RPM so it will run faster on a 7.2K.

    4. reliability Well... Let me tell my experience with Vista: Lots of blue screens. Windows 7: only one (don't know why exactly).

    Anyway, when you want to upgrade your PC purchase SSD's. Those disk's will give a real improved performance for your system. Okay, don't use the cheap SSD's and do some research on the internet about the write and read speed, but then you've got probably a much faster system!

    Upgrading to Windows 7 is definitely the right thing to do. It's a good step up compared to Vista which was quite unsuccessful at its time.
    I'd definitely recommend upgrading your computer first, and then going for the s3ven ;)
