You may check out the ratings at shopping-cart-reviews.com (for example).

Overall, most of decent carts today are optimized for search engines and you should simply look for clean HTML/CSS code, customizable product and category URLs, TITLE and META tags, site map generation.

It can be achieved with free solutions (like ZenCart or osCommerce), but you'll have to look for extra modules. Magento is good for SEO, but it is more complex and resource-consuming. As of paid solutions, we'd be grateful if you could look at CS-Cart - it is both fast and completely SEO-friendly (and, of course, PayPal is completely integrated).

You will definitely want to check out Magento. It's what you're looking for a full shopping cart and integrated paypal system.

But, here's the kicker  It is really great for SEO ... try it out and you'll see what I mean

Magento is no better than oscommerce for seo.

Are you intending to do the design for the site yourself or modify a template. If it's the latter I suggest you find a template that you like first and go from there. Most opensource carts are on par with each other these days.

Depends on what you are planning to sell.
Deliver something online (email, website)? offline (shipping)?

*Web hosting is also important. Shared? VPS? Dedicated? PHP4 or 5? cURL? etc.

Every shopping carts have different requirements in order to run properly.

    For me, I use CubeCart.

Don't have the best shopping store script! It depends what you want to do ? Programming language you like and operating system on server/host.....

You should overview features and requirement system and choose which one best suits your conditions.

    Good luck :)

    hi
    best paid: cs-cart
best free: i would say: magento and prestashop. i exclude zencart, just because i feel it is little outdated. oscommerce is a great software but could be a nightmare. even when it comes to template changing.

the good thing, the internet is full of reviews about all of the above and before you decide, you can get a demo to see yourself if it is what you are looking for!

I'm using Shop-Script Free with modified script on my online store : www.TokoPC.info
This script is very easy to modified although there is no option to set anything about SEO.. I don't know all the features of this premium version but I thing this script is the best simple eCommerce.. :D
