    Hello,

I see allot of free e commerce cart plugins with Joomla.

Is the Joomla engine a licensed install on the server?

Joomla is open source software.... but there are extensions that make it more useful that you might pay for or are free like joomla is.

No, it is free. That said, I highly advise that you DO NOT USE IT. While I get all sorts of crap for saying this, Joomla is for noobs(short of the fact its hard to sort out at first), a non compliant mess, hacked way to often and a convoluted trainwreck of weird practices.

There are much better solutions for wordpress and there are much better e-commerce solutions such as Magento, Prestashop, cre-loaded, cs-cart(not free if recall) but I like and or appreciate the way those folks approach marketing themselves on this forum and other sites.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

Yes, of course. By using joomla you are installing a fully authentic and licenced (and free at the same time ) software.

Just go for it and nothing will be wrong.

Even the extensions are mostly free though some offer a commercial version of extension but probably you will not need them.

i recently use joomla to build a site, seems quite easy to use, above all, it's free. I like it and to explore its other benifits like the one you are talking about.

I love Joomla too, it's totally free with lot of great extensions, some of them you may have to pay but still... I heard lot of god things about Joomla + Virtuemart, I had to try these. I think it may be exactly what's you're looking for.
