Mesothelioma ads on fark.com

I was on fark.com earlier today, and all the AdSense ads were for mesothelioma, asbestos and lawyers. Of course, the content was 100% asbestos-UNrelated.

Fark is a high traffic site, did they cut some sleazy backalley deal with Google or is there an approach to AdSense I missed? It certainly wasn't the usual keyword route. As a sidenote, why would the generally tech-savvy yuppies on fark even click those ads anyway? They used to have picture ads with big-breasted women wearing t-shirts (from companies selling said shirts), those MUSta done alright.

Interesting, I also see that. The problem with Fark is that it is hard to rovide it with relevant ads becasue there is no focus on topic.

Mesothelioma is some kind of cancer caused by breathing in asbestos particles. "Ambulance chasing" lawyers pay big bucks for that keyword, hoping to find people who want to sue for damages.

Yeah i think that the website has so many topics that maybe it can afford to do it. Who knows they've probably got a couple of sections on Mesothelioma and sectioned them so they're not violating TOS because they are covering the topic.
Does this keyword still pay top bucks or are there too many sites about it now. Anybody know about any other top paying keywords?:

Or, to look at it another way, Google has lots of interesting keywords, on the main page for example, to choose from. But mesothelioma isn't one of them! I clicked the Tech tab and the ads changed to Star Trek stuff. Down the page, Star Trek is indeed mentioned. Odd first choice, but relevant in a way.

Google allows special options for big Adsense publishers. They can use "kw_type", "kw", "hints" modifiers in their Adsense code. May be Fark.com as big publisher use it to target ads on high paying keywords.

I cant seem to find any particular mention of mesothelioma or lawyers. Maybe it was someone with a big budget who bought ads through the "Advertise on this site"? Maybe Fark removed them after noticing.. I doubt they would want those sorts of ads there anyway, cant see them converting well.
