Interspire has worked wonders for me. I'd highly recommend it. Couple it along with their email marketing program and it should suit just about any need one may have.

brainwreck, I hear the product variation module in Interspire is not up to scratch and discount codes is not there also.

How does Interspire compare with something like Zencart for some of these features? Anyone has any comments?

Refer to link and article from Chris Beasley at websitepblisher.net

    http://www.websitepublisher.net/blog/2009/06/20/interspire-shopping-cart-50-review/

brainwreck, have a read and tell me how you overcoming this problem in Interspire for 'Product Variation'.

    HOW IN ZENCART?
How does this issue get handled in Zencart? - anyone convince me why Zencart is good in the following areas:
    - Order management
    - Reports
    - Customer management
    - products management
    - Integration to shipping module & gateway
    - email marketing
    - AND, THE BIG ONE - SEO? - Is it fiddly in Zencart.

    ivanf,

    1. How well does it take care of product variation ?

    2. How easy did you find it to integrate to aust post for shipping

    3. what gateway have you got setup?

    4. How do you do your marketing & email campaign out of zencart..is there a module and do I have to pay extra to buy it?

    5. SEO - what extra work is required here ?

    6. Do you have a link(s) to your site done in zencart?

    7. Did do your own coding and are there any good templates to use(free)?

I look forward to your response. thanks

I've never had any problems in the product variation features of it, but then again, I dont deal in the types of variations mentioned in the article you linked. I deal in outdoor sporting goods, so its either what color backpack do you want, or what size camouflage jacket do you want. I havent had to deal with both color and size for the same product, but given the interface you deal with, I can see how it would be a bit time consuming, but definitely not impossible.

As for the coupon or discount codes, I have never had a problem with those, and I give them away quite frequently.

The biggest problem I encountered when I first started using it was charging a fixed amount for shipping for a certain item and if multiple quantities were ordered of the same product, it would rack up the shipping fees individually. I spent an hour cruising through the interspire support forums and was able to find a fix for it.

As for Interspire compared to something like Zencart, I'm pretty technotarded, so Zen was a bit much in terms of configurations for me, whereas Interspire was more idiot friendly for someone like me.

Thanks brainwreck for the quick response on Interspire and sharing your experiences.

I will look at Zencart in detail shortly, but I am convinced I need to put in a system like Interpsire as I don't have the time to stuff around with these OS packages and the more I hear from this forum, I keep hearing people with one liners recommending Zencart or other OS products with very little detail and I get the impression these people are not serious business minded people but rather trying a bit of this & that which in the long run will end up costing more.

Can you tell me if you are running hosted(now konwn as bigcommerce) or licensed version?

If licensed , I am wondering what level of web hosting I will need.

I am looking at anywhere from 100-250 products to start with and I guess as time goes, if traffic gets busy I will need to upgrade the host, but for now I am considering shared web host.

I'm currently on the gold hosted plan, but I will be upgrading to platinum shortly due to the product limit issue.

riashe, what is good about zencart?

and do you use it for the links you have got in your post?

I hope people can express themselves and outline a bit more than just putting in one liners!!!!!@@. 'It is good' or 'I use it'...help me here I am trying to look for a solution not a product competition.

I think some of you don't actually use anything the way you contribute to these forums?

    Magento for me

But you need to look at your hosting first as you'll really need virtual or dedicated hosting for this e-commerce script

I like using prestashop for ecommerce

Joomla and virtuemart are also very good ( but joomla is more for content management)
