How would I start my own business? I don't need a "real" business, I just have a network of sites and I wanted to create a business (real) So I can sign up to Adsense with it. I don't want to give my Social Security number over the internet.

Do some keyword research and find out what is in demand, then you can have some idea of where to go. Cheers.

I think what he meant is that he doesn't want a brick and mortar type business nor one which would mean he has to stock anything up, he just want to earn income from Adsense or Affiliate programs which doesn't need his SSN number

Exactly, I would need a business number to sign up for Adsense, so I would need a business for that but it won't be "real". It will be non-functioning, I will have it just so I can use that number instead of my Social securty number. I don't like giving personal info out on the web. Especially that.

Well unless you've been banned by adsense before...why'd you start up a new business identity? as far as not giving adsense your SSN...I don't know...so many people have had absolutely no problem with it..

Well, if you do not want to provide your SSN number then probably you will not be able to join Adsense, it is as simple as that. It's one way to verify that you are who you are and the SSN is for tax purposes. There is really no way around this.

If you have nothing to hide then submitting your SSN here should not be an issue. Google is a trusted company and you are sure they wouldn't try anything funny with your SSN.

Lordmenance has a network of websites that he wishes to establish as a business entity.

The business number will be used for tax verification purposes through adsense.

My advice, is seek out the business start-ups in your area and find the required information for e-commerce, e-business or online business entities and the process that is required.

In general, most should write up a business plan and look at registering a business name etc... different places have different processes, so the best advice is check locally for your area and hopefully there is some form of 'expert' or advice service that you can find all the required 'legal' information to setting up a business.

If you're in the US, you should contact the appropriate department at the state government level to register your business and name (in PA it's the Dept. of Revenue; not sure about other states). Contact your local government to make sure you're legally allowed to run any kind of business from home where you live. They're usually pretty easy to work with (it's a zoning issue) as long as you're not planning to need parking, signage, or have customers in and out all the time, most places won't give you much of a problem... but it's better to verify beforehand. Also see if your local government requires any other kind of registration. Then contact the IRS for an EIN (which is what you'll be using as a substitute for your SSN with adsense). Just remember that you'll need to pay self-employment tax on your income in addition to any other income tax and state and local taxes. They'll all have their own rules / forms / procedures for dealing with that, depending on where you live.

I'd just be careful because the way you've worded it here it sounds like your approaching it as if you want the EIN strictly as a substitute for your SSN... which it is NOT. If you get an EIN you will have to run it as an actual business, whether you sell anything or serve anyone or even if you lose money. If you misuse your EIN you may face fraud charges.

Yea, I plan to (and have done) some sites for local businesses, so I figured I might as well start my own little "network".

you can give your SSN too company who is well reputed or is stock market listed .. they are not going to misuse it if they have to stay in business.
