Where is the profit in opening a proxy directory? Is it in the hopes you eventually get enough adds that you can start to add backlinks to be required, then raise your PR, then offer paid spots?

    Or what?

Nope. The usefull thing to this is that you can actually make much more money after a while. The visitors are always searching for the newest proxies so you can submit your own proxies to it too and get free traffic. Also there is the possibility to offer paid spots. Instead of buying these at other sites you can use them for free on your own site :D It's a win-win project ;)

So there is practically no potential in make a proxy directory just to make a directory?

Speed is confirmed OK: gigabit network connectivity :)
Reliability: Olaf2 (see earlier in this thread) is also with them and happy. His been in proxy biz 2 years or more, and currently has about 50 proxies there with VPS.net.

Hi all, I am thinking about providing a high bandwidth proxy service to people who want to access digital TV in a particular country but would otherwise be blocked on a geographic basis.

Any ideas where to start? I see a lot of proxy stuff on DP but most of it is advertising supported web proxies which is not what I'm looking at.

Ideally I'd want to pay on a per bandwith basis so that my upfront costs are not too high while I'm getting my first customers.

    Anyone do this already?

@rolf: You mean like a US VPS for people outside USA so they can watch shows at ABC.com for example? Only that it will be web-based proxy.

I have acquired a second VPS with VPS.net :) yesterday.

They way you can manage your VPS with them is second to none, speed and service are great (I had to contact their support for DNS issues which are solved now, and they responded friendly within a few minutes).

In addition to the great many - already mentioned - advantages VPS.net has is the Reboot or Power-off button found in the independent managagement console which lets you restart your VPS without the need to send a ticket to your hosting provider.

I have a potential client that wants to use a proxy service to hide his ip so he can check out his competition. Is there a proxy service provider that has been in business for a while that does not keep any logs and has a setup that allows the user to set which ip range to use for a given day.

He is based in the US and wants the option to use various US ip's and other countries. It must be reliable and easy for him to use. Not looking for a free service

Has anyone seen this proxy before? http://www.bannerpoint.biz/

I found it submitted on my proxy list and when I clicked on it, it took me a while to search the url box.

Nope. Looks like one of the beginners or more advanced owners testing if using wrong keywords for his proxy will get him more earnings. He'll see the result if he keeps doing this after logging in on his Adsense account :D

Interesting concept, one that might just get you banned from Adsense I assume. I guess that was the reference made above.

2 nodes at the most he uses as I remember from the conversations with him. This translates to 512 MB RAM.

Myself, I bought one node only plus Cpanel to host a newly built website. In the next weeks I will move my proxies and buy nodes as needed.

Using VPS.net I expect to make some savings, but more important to me are redundancy, scalability, and service.

My recent quest to find a VPS for a unrelated project lead me to "linhost" they also offer VPS "sliced/nodes" - do not think that vps.net is the only place to do this.

Might I also point out, every time I check in here you guys are all jumping on the latest "BEST HOST" then you kill them with your proxies which are not suitable for typical oversold hosting and cry about downtime.
