Best way to protect against fraud is contact. You can strip away the anonymity. ASK FOR A PHONE NUMBER! I've had nothing but GREAT experiences buying and selling. Talk to the person. If they're not willing to contact you that way, it could be a scam! I won't do business if they won't provide a phone number, if I ask for one. That's my best protection anyway. That and NOT using bank checks.

No offense, but you gotta be smart about doing business with an online entity. You don't know who you're dealing with, unless you talk to them or someone who's done business with them.

Ebay sucks big time. I lost $5000 on buying super bowl tickets from them. Instead I got my Super Bowl tickets from http://www.ticketoption.com

I bought a coin set on ebay, about $1100. From a powerseller, with perfect feedback. Payed with paypal. Never got the item. Filed a claim with ebay. filed a claim with paypal. I won the claim, paypal and ebay agreed I got riped off, they gave me $175. So I am still out over $900. BAH!

    Why only 175?

Always use a credit card when possible so you have the credit card reverse the charges.

Ebay buyer protection max is $200, then they charge you $25 for being riped off by there site member and them stepping in.

LOL...I just looked, seller is still a POWER SELLER.

Banned me, said they wouldnt talk to me until 1 year later, when they would consider unbanning me. Sad thing is, they pretty much have a monopoly with a great idea, they just havn't executed it well which hurts everybody.

I've won two paypal disputes, but didn't get any money back
as "money could not be recovered" from scammers account.
Thankfully it was only for very small amounts each time.
Just think how much ebay gets on all those transactions gone wrong,
they still take their cut. It would be nice if they could do something more about
the scammers but I suppose that's business...in their view anyway. :(
