    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

I'm thinking of starting a forum, how can AdSense work?

vBulletin also has a lot of standard features that you will be wishing you had if you use phpbb. phpbb is great free software but you need to constantly do the security updates or you will find yourself in hot water.

I use phpbb to set up my forum (the city gate)... its brand new but you can see the adsense within the posts... and I am working on it still... could ad more later if I wanted to... and it was FREE software! Tons of support on their borad... I would recommend!
PS I haven't even started promoting... just got the site hosted and up today... so there aren't any members yet :)

In my case, I've found that repeat visitors to the forum usually stick to the forum area.

Well it depends on how you define easy. I had no php programing knowledge at all... so it took a while to get the hang of... but I do know a bit of html which helped. I used alot of trial and error.
If you are passionate about it... you will be able to figure it out. Plus they have a great forum and alot of helpful resources on their site to help you.

To me IPB is the best forum. I compared 2 sites, one using VB and the other using IPB ( trial ) with LoFi feature enabled.

Google SE indexed IPB forum much better than VB.....I'm comparing number of pages indexed by Google for both site.

    personally, I use SMF 1.1RC

If you got $$, go for VB or IPB.

There's a cool forum software called eblah and it's free at eblah.com. They already have a module built right in to put adsense in between each post/reply. Plus the template is VERY easily manageable if you want to add more adsense to other aread. I use it for my forums and it's working well. I had vbulletin but all my adsense revenue was going to the license fee!

And no, I'm not affiliated with the eblah people at all. I am just psyched to have found a free forum that looks and works great. :)

Just out of curiousity, what kind of site is the easiest for making money? But in regards to the topic, I run a phpbb bulletin, and it is very difficult...although we are still very new. I would definately recomend trying the phpbb before you spend the money on vbulletin...you can always upgrade later.

    Well I've done it!
I spent a few days doing this, and it hasn't been too difficult.

    The forum is thefactoryforum.com

I have already developed a bit of a cult status at work!
It is a forum for people to discuss work related issues, and it is free to join.

Thanks for all the help and advice given to me in this thread.

Well my forum has been up and running for just over a week now, over 100 registered users.

The forum has been set up for people fed up of not being heard at work. They can air their views about work related issues, managers can see them, and maybe address their concerns.

The problem I have is the AdSense ads not showing relevant subjects. IE, in a thread for union advice, ads are showing for free forum software.
Is there anything I can do to sort this out?

    Thanks

    Thank you.
I opted for the free forum software, because I'm no too sure on how popular it will be yet.
It really has took off for my work place, but I really need other people to sign up!
If it continues to grow I will buy VBulletin, and drop all the info into that.
