How do you host your clients sites?

I don't have a reseller account with godaddy yet..... so how should I go about setting up hosting for my clients?

Should I set it up as a new hosting account under my name, then charge the client accordingly?

What will be different once I get a reseller account?

    Thanks.

It depends on the control panel which you are provided. Most offering Resellers Account would do so with Cpanel/WHM. When you get a Cpanel based Reseller Account, you will have access to the Reseller's WHM control panel, with it, you can create web hosting accounts for your clients, each with their own space and cpanel to boot.

If you plan on reselling web hosting, you'll need a reseller account.

Well how would i do it without a reseller account?
Could I pay for setting up a hosting plan under their name, and bill them for everything at the end?

EDIT: hmm just read your post..... you sure there's no other way?

Why wouldn't you not want to get a reseller account with unlimited domain hosting so each client has their own cpanel backend.

Dude forget Godaddy for hosting. Shop around and you can get decent Cpanel/WHM reseller hosting for about $20 per/month.

You can find good companies running around to be a reseller for.
I resell hosting for two companies, paying each 20 bucks a month.

Lot easier to do this for your customer's sake.

$240 a year is much more than I wanted to spend. Godaddy's $99 a year is more reasonable. What's the difference, and what would I do about the deluxe hosting I'm already paying for that hosts my couple sites? Can I add that in under my reseller account, and how much would that cost?

You can register individual virtual accounts for each of your customers but in the end, it probably be more costly that way.

One advantage of getting a reseller's account is that you can crave your own identity because you can have your own virtual DNS Servers. If you just sign up virtual accounts for each of your customers then what is your competitive advantage ? Why would customers want to sign up with you ?

GoDaddy Reseller is not the same as the $20/month Reseller account that the rest are offering or mentioning here. GoDaddy Reseller $99 is to resell GoDaddy Products, you are working for GoDaddy in a way but instead of them paying you, you are paying them for the priviledge of doing that.

The rest mentioned Reseller's account as in purely a virtual web account which you can use to sell to others. If you stay within the disk space and bandwidth limits, all your exposure is $20/mth, you can sell to 1 customer or you can sell to 20 customers, it will still be $20/mth flat.

I think since you are new to the business and the terminology, you might want to hold off the idea of reselling web site accounts for now because the business is not something where you sit by and rake in the money. There is a lot of hardwork involved in getting the sales and also providing technical support for each of your clients. Like I said before, remember sometimes your customers livelihood is in your hands because if their website stays up or down would directly affect their income and them being able to pay their bills. So you need to know more than your customers in terms of technical issues.

The Deluxe Hosting probably allows you to host several websites under the account but it doesn't separate your sites with your customers sites if you so decide to use it to host your customers site. This will look unprofessional and doesn't give you much credibility as a business. Of course if you host your friends and family websites then it probably not going to be a big issue.

    ^ excellent response, rep added.
I don't plan on making a business out of reselling hosting, but it sounds like I'll have to do it to some extent if I'm creating webpages for companies.

Thanks for clearing up the diff between godaddy's and the rest....

Can anyone recommendend a specific site to buy this from?

I would think that it all depends on what you intend to approach this.

If you want to plunge into offering web hosting services than a reseller's account would definitely be a good move because you can crave your identity in such. It also allows your customers to have control over the websites that you have created as they will have the control panel to manage it and do not need to get back to you because they need an additional email account or to view their stats.

If you do not want to retain full and exclusive control over your customers website then using your Deluxe account should suffice.

The other option would be to just do the web design and let your customers handle their own web hosting.

I can't quite recommend a site to go with because I've been pretty pampered now that I've been using my dedicated servers for the last 6 years and have not used a resellers account lately. Those that I know probably would have changed drastically now. However, you should find some from one of my links in my signature below.

As for getting your own dedicated server now, it probably will open up a whole new can of worms which I doubt you want to tackle now. Concentrate what you are good at and leave the rest to the expects.

Are you a web designer/developer? You can recommend a good hosting service or start one of your own as a reseller. Hostgator is another offering reseller services.

If you don't want to purchase a reseller account, just don't offer your clients hosting, only problem is that you will probably lose a good deal of clients, and you should tell them this upfront so they don't get mixed ideas, and they won't be "so" upset in the end.

I'm trying to figure out how this would work.....
After I build the the site for the a company, they say they want it up on the net. Do I take their credit card information and buy them an account using their name etc?

What would be the most professional way of getting them hosting if I don't offer it through my reseller account?

I need to get a few sales first before I can afford this reseller account and I'm trying to decide how to get by in the meantime.
