No, I'm a firm believer in laissez-faire, in other words the government can keep their noses out of my business. I pay my taxes so I should be able to enjoy my liberty and not have to register my day to day activities with a bureaucracy.

What is a non-legal business? One conducting fraud? Even if business would have to be licenced it wouldn't stop things like that from happening.

For free-market advocates like me, I like the internet the way it is. I'll never get a license, and I don't pay taxes.

And, if they throw me in jail for not paying taxes, I'll quote Henry David Thoreau, "In a society that imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is prison."

When the IRS finds out (notice I didn't say if, I said when), I doubt you'll be saying that. They are no joke.

But the government will loose more income when everyone use e-commerce as a medium of transaction and business..

"Licenses" to run a business are one of two things:

First, they are a tax. That is it. Just another person you have to pay off.
Second, they inhibit competition and hurt the free market. They add more restrictions to the playing field.

    A horrible idea.

    I agree.

You can't just go around taxing people and resticting business because someone may be a "criminal"

Ideally it would, but in practice they would just compensate lower taxes by increasing inflation. Free market works much better than large government spending because governments lack motivation for efficient spending, but is difficult to enforce where government is allowed to control money supply

Okay... I got your point... The internet should be based on free market and free enterprises...

very interesting discussion. I agree it should be free. Bad reps follow you anyway. and besides if you want legitimacy you could always get a BBB online certification :)
