One domain is no worse/better than another, with the possible exception of .com for it's brandability.

Technically speaking you shouldn't sell products from a .org, but in practice there's nothing to stop you.

In the past, you need to ensure that you are use the appropriate TLD for the right purposes but now the market is pretty much free for all. There is nothing stopping you from using a .org to sell things and a .biz for running a website which is non-profit. It may not sound appropriate but it is just not illegal to do so.

There are no good or bad TLD, if there is such a thing then there would be a lot which are banned or no one would be getting them.

The perception is really just between the site owner and their audience. But since most traffic comes from links and not so much typed-in, it doesn't really matter, contents is what really counts.

Technically, as in, you shouldn't really but nobody is going to stop you.

Put it this way, the .com domain have been around since the beginning of the commercial internet and everyone who heard about the internet would know about it. To the non-technical surfers, web sites are generally classified as 'Dot-Coms'. remember the Dot-Com Bubble, the Dot-Com Boom and so on. No one talks about Dot-Biz the same way as the Dot-Com.

So generally, people tend to remember domain name as a Dot-Com domain name rather than a Dot-Biz domain name. So if given the chance, the first priority would be to register a .COM domain and failing which get a .ORG or .BIZ.

I count myself as tech-savvy and yet I still remember domains as .com variant better. So what James is saying is that for type-in, there is higher probability of people remembering and thus typing in a .com than a .biz or .org. Which means that you may be given the miss and thus losing hits to the .com.

.net can be considered as second choice, IMO .info is more popular than .biz.
