Website Brokers - A Vanishing Market?

Hello Everyone,

Well I find this a very interesting question, I remember when I used to list a site for sale either on here or on Flippa and numerous brokers contacted me saying they could help me sell my sites.

Yet these days there seem to be very few website brokers, do you think it is a declining market?

Perhaps there's just less of them spamming the forums now than there used to be.

I think there's just as many brokers now as there have ever been!

 

Well, i don't think it is a declining market. It is very strong and will be for the next 100 years. As long as the internet is working then that will be very demanding. I think they just aren't in forums anymore. There are no big website buyers here.

 

Not vanishing, I don't think. But some many people are taking their products directly to buyers in forums like this. I do think the market is still strong in terms of offline buyers, though.

 

I guess seller to buyer direct communication has increased a lot in case of virtual products. This has surely affected brokers.

 

Do you think it is a good market to get into?

 

I have often heard two things about market or rather marketing...
- a true salesman can sell ice on north pole, and
- a good product sells by itself not by the salesman.

Websites are something that are selling...

Rest is up to you...which one of the two sayings you believe on.

 

There may be a decreasing number because people are becoming more educated and able to sell the site by themselves. There are also more places to list a site for sale and buyers are starting to come back into the market now when 12 months ago everybody was on the sidelines. You should see it come back as more people start to list their quality sites they have been holding onto for income during the recession.

What is a broker?

Any idiot can send you a PM claiming to be a broker. What experience does he have? How many sites has he sold? Does he have a broker licence? Could he show you his proof of liability insurance?

To be a proper business broker requires experience of a variety of businesses, the ability to analyse accounts, the savvy to recognise the right venue to place your offering, the smarts to prescreen buyers.

Anybody with those abilities isn't going to charge $5 an hour. That's why it's not economical to use a business broker to sell a site that worth only a few hundred dollars. Many of them won't even talk to you unless you're turning over hundreds of thousands of dollars (with a clear proof of positive cash flow). Who will talk to you, of course, are the chaps who may have sold one or two of their own sites in the past and fancy making a few dollars from you by assisting with your sale.

 

I think they just found that they spent to much time soliciting forums and didn't get the return that they were looking for, so the spamming has decreased.

 

I agree.

My opinion is that the number of broker wannabes and pretenders has dropped considerably (They have gone seeking the next fad). Genuine brokers are still around though (They haven't decreased in number).
