Sorry about this, but this is the extent of my market research ^^

Quick Question: If a lottery website was selling tickets $1 each. Would you be tempted to purchase any?

Only if I was 100% certain that the site was either owned/operated or officially sponsored by the state running the lottery program.

By state. I think you have a good idea, but when I placed myself in someone else's shoes, I was immediately skeptical of the validity of the service. So, yes, I would only trust it by the State.

 

Ok, I thought the price would override that thought though lol. What if you do lose $1? (Not saying you would though lol)

 

$1 is not important. I think most important thing is that transferring lottery prize money to winners has to be guaranteed. I should be sure about that if I win I will receive my prize quickly and easily.

 

i had a client who was looking at doing the same. The issue was the same: the "trust factor". The problem most respondents had (in our own survey) was they had no way to know it was a scam--you need a respected partner (or local business)....on the other end of the spectrum 1$ is not a lot to lose in a scam- (some reported)-but they were worried about the personal info being shared...

Testimonials would not convince me .... the site needs to 100% genuine from start to finish

Showing example of a very ordinary person who had win the first prize. It will build trust.

 

Maybe your market research should actually test the sales potential. If you get interest from buyers, and someone actually wins your lottery, then you could post their story on your site. This, if it works, would potentially make your sales sky-rocket!

Who doesn't go out and buy a lottery ticket after seeing a BIG WINNER on television? I buy at least one ticket after seeing a winner on TV 99% of the time.

 

To obtain credibilty you should first obtain some sort of certificate from a government authority, which can be checked on their site. Pictures of past winners might also help, but they must look unpolished (a model with shiny teeth and 50$ in her hands simply doesn't look right). You might also link to articles in respectable media that showcase you (of course you have to get there in the first place).

BTW I voted NO. I wouldn't play at an online lottery, just too skeptic about it.

No, I dont capitalize in "The Poor Man's Tax".

 

What do you mean the "Poor man's Tax"? It's not state funded nor does it fund anything the Government should be themselves. It's an idea I had to start up my own casino type site with a lottery.

 

I agree with SarahK. While there are some die-hard lottery fans, most are only like that when it's a much larger prize than $50 at stake. Other lottery players, myself included, only play as an afterthought while we're already out at the store.

One solution would be to hold the contest, and when you choose a winner, call the press. Getting exposure thru a CNN or a Reuters would help your cause. I know people are sceptical about the media, but I think seeing it reported may help your cause. Then again, if it's not "legal" in your state, you could bring the wrong kind of attention.

Personally, as far I’m concerned with the media behind you anything possible, how else did that guy trade paper-clip for a house in a year? It wasn’t by luck in my view.
