anyone know which social network script is this site using? Or is there any social networking script that can create something similar to this site? I tried Elgg which is free, but having a hard time installing it.

Well, This website works on Ning (The Paid version) with backlinks removed.
Ning is an automated social network creator, but it's not hosted on your server. You need to pay to remove backlink and for extra hosting.

But for having an independent social network hosted on your website i would suggest you to use socialengine.

Does ning offer the source code for a fee so that it can be hosted on my own site or not? I need full control of the site, if it has to be hosted on their server, then that is no good.

 

Ning is software as a service - meaning that it stays on their servers.

If you want full control, you'll need a script that you can upload. There are quite a few of them. Socialengine, as said above, dzoic, phpfox, etc. The average price of these scripts is around 300$

 

No, They won't obviously, Building a second ning isnt much of a big deal with custom coding or with socialengine.
