How does one go about obtaining an EIN? I looked on the IRS's web page, but i cant find it (maybe im just dumb). Also, is there any cost or age requirement? How long does it usually take?
    Thanks in advance,
    Colin

You can go to the IRS website and print off the form. After you do this there is an option to fax the form in to the IRS. Usually within 24 hours you can call the IRS and they will give you your EIN number over the phone and mail out a copy to you. Hope this helps.

Thanks both of you, if anyone has a definite answer on the age req it would be much appreciated (otherwise im assuming the lack of an obvious statement against it means theres no requirement)

I don't think there is an age requirement to get an EIN. EIN = Employer Identification Requirement, basically like a social security number but for an American company such as an LLC.

You need to sign on behalf of the company so I'm sure you need to be of legal age. But if you already have a LLC or Corporation that you need to obtain an EIN for, you're probably of legal age enough to get one.

I have applied for an EIN off the IRS web site before. The link for "Online EIN Application" is here:
    https://sa.www4.irs.gov/sa_vign/newFormSS4.do

The IRS will issue you a provisional number right away, if I remember correctly. They will then send you a letter confirming the EIN number but it will be the same number unless there is a problem (it was for me).

    I hope that helps.

Did you have to "sign" something? I think I just did mine over the phone and got it instantly. I don't remember for sure now though.

I'm pretty sure the online version has a digital signature at the bottom, but I've been wrong before and it was 2+ years ago that I did the online EIN app so please don't hold me to that. It's definitely cheaper to do that than have a lawyer do it for you.. :)
