Social Bookmarks = Good traffic

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by RRWH, Sep 11, 2006.

A few days ago, one of my sites made it onto the front page of several social bookmark sites. I have had a massive increase in traffic (and adsense Revenue) as a result of this.

I didn't do anything at all, except provide a site that some people felt was worthy of adding to the sites. The good thing about this, is that the URL has also been posted to several highly popular (and high ranking) blog pages as well.

I had over 2000 uniques/day extra for the last few days and does not look like slowing down today either.

A quick look thru my logs show that I made the front page of del.icio.us, furl, popurls, diggdot and also several Blogs

It was good to look around and see my site on around 10 PR8 sites that brought me a lot of traffic!

You have to have some pretty revolutionary stuff to get lsited on all those sources. Hundreds of thousands of articles and websites are submitted to various social bookmarking type sites and very few get much traffic as a result of the power law.

    I'm jealous!
I've never had a site that I think caters to those audiences though. I do get some traffic however. But nothing to brag about.

Yes, Saturday was a good day! and the flow on effect has been great!

The best part about this was the fact that it happened all by itself! I just checked, and I have now fallen off the front page of most sites - I am still on the front page of furl (screenshot taken for my own ego!)

I never expected to be listed, and I guess that the hard work I put in has finally paid off!

A snapshot of the stats for the last few days - Date, Visits, pages, Hits, Bandwidth

Not bad for a site that is only 8 pages and offers a service.
Now all I need to do is to work out how to reproduce this for other sites :)

    Hi,

Can you tell me how long it's taken you to get this far?

I'm pretty sure that my site needs to be redesigned so that it's more congruent before people start recommending it. Still I'll keep plugging away as the costs are minimal.

    Cheers, pondlife.

Social bookmarking sites are also good source of traffic for me.

When I write some good article on my site, I submit it to digg, del.icio.us, reddit and furl.

And I can say it is worth to submit to those sites.

You promote your web site, and you can get also some quality backlinks ;)

Yes, you can get good traffic from those sources, and maybe plenty of bookmarks/links as a result. But the immediate traffic doesn't pay that well, because the visitors are not really out to buy anything. They're mostly just curious and are looking for news.

    The main problem is oversaturation

there are FAR FAR more stories submitted than tagged and read which sucks but it reality.

It's taken me a while to wrap my brain around the benefit of these sites after reading a blurb in an seo newsletter. Now I get it. The links don't help directly with seo, but the efects of having something on one of these sites between traffic and maybe getting some 'real' links out of it could make it worthwhile.

To be honest digg seems to work for almost any site.
Every article I submit to digg.com brings in an enormous amount of traffic, 500 to 1000 visits a day at the minimum, you cant go wrong.
