Where do I find a steady online job?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by math20, Sep 27, 2006.

I'm looking to find something to pay the bills while I do things on the interweb, preferable something math or web design related.

Where would I find such a job?

I have to be able to do the work over the internet and get paid via paypal, does such a system exist?

    Thanks in advance!

If you find the right person it does. Having a portfolio helps.

Clients want to use someone they can trust and therefore need proof of your trustworthiness. You can build credibility both by referring to your background, and from your behaviour when you interact with the client. You can use accomplishments in previous jobs and referrals to build credibility when you are getting started. In addition, companies you have worked for in the past, and job titles you have held, can build your credibility.

Thank you for the advice Jerad, but are there any websites where companies can meet up with potential online employees?

Why don't you start tutoring Math? People pay upto $50/hr for math tutors.

Well in terms of web design, you can probably partner with a smaller host...have them send customers to you who need web design -- and you send customers to them when they need hosting, some will give you $$ for the refs. We actually reward our refferrers with cash...~$10 - $15 per refferal. It really adds up quick.

I wouldn't be opposed to that but I would like to do it through an existing company over the internet so it would be a steady job instead of just freelancing.

Thank you for the tip! Are you a host like that? If so, send me a pm.

Try Growingstars dot com or 1to1tutor dot com

I doubt they will hire you if you are not in India because the tutors are in India and students are in US and Australia.

Or you can try one of the tutoring centers like Sylvan, Score, Kumon etc.. but they won't hire you off the internet.

I've received several calls and worked for a couple companies that have contacted me via www.Monster.com . I work for myself now, but when I was searching, Monster was a great resource.

Doing searches online for web design companies probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Try getting some work over at www.Rentacoder.com or www.Elance.com if you wanna go the entrepreuner route.

I have tried getafreelancer and on almost every job someone bids either way lower then I will work for or there are 30 bids and I don't get picked, so if you could get the jobs and send them too me I would gladly pay you a commission.
