Translation Site

I want to translate part or all of my site (inexpensively) to Spanish. I signed up for Elance but was unimpressed because there were very few translator jobs being posted.

NOTE: I've got a close bilingual relative that can do final editing.

Where do you guys post your translation work? Is there somewhere better than Elance? What's the best way to find an inexpensive translator?

    Hi
Sometimes "inexpensive translators" are not the best. You know, they "normally" (Not always) use translator softwares, Google translator, etc.
Here you can find a lot of good spanish translators and writers. Please, visit the "Content Creation" sub-forum: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=102
    Have a good day ;)

Thx for the idea. I guess the only thing I'd say is that I did a search for "translator" in the title and only came up w/ 3 that dealt with Spanish in the last 3 months.

But maybe something will come of it.

Let me know if you think of anything else...

Proz.com is a more what you're looking for it's a forum and community for translators whereas this place is generally more to do with online marketing.

Thx but believe it or not, I used to be a member of ProZ - I did a little medical translation from Spanish to English a year or two ago but couldn't make a go of it. But I can tell you that it's way too pricey for me. I could not even think about translating my site at standard translator rates...

I understand you want to translate complete parts of your website, but maybe you can use these "word" translators which will probably bring you a step further.

    Altavista bablefish
    Google translate

Just type them in google for the websites.

Why don't you really try to use any of search engine translators or Multitran for example
    They may really help you

It depends what level of translation you want. Most of our team are bilingual and therefore do translations from english into their native language (spanish mainly) as one of our ancillary services.

Automated translations will often give you a starter for 10 but is rarely good enough for any formal use. Funnily, if the person reading it is bilingual with the original language they will get 99% of what the automated tool has done because it literally translates things and so idiums may be correctly made into spanish words but the meaning is lost because the spanish idium isnt just a straight translation of the english one.

Yes, good advice, but I can read Spanish quite well myself and I have a close relative that is bilingual and has done translation herself. She just doesn't have time right now. However, she can proof to make sure I'm getting good quality.

Then contact translators for their prices? Are you simply wanting copy translated or do you need "html" translated (eg page names, alt tags, meta tags etc)? (if its the second it a touch more specialist).

As said, we can do translation of either but being based in the UK our rates are probably above what you want.

I don't need the html - I can handle that myself. I'm working with someone right now but will keep you in mind. Yes, I would expect you're past what I can afford, but, again, I'll keep it in mind.
