Increasing CPC on a video site

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by lordvader, Oct 1, 2006.

Let's say i have a video site with daily average of 40.000 - 50.000 impressions and ok CTR.

The only problem is low CPC, which is usually around $0.05 (not an exact information, just for illustration purposes).

Now, here is the big question:
    How do I raise CPC?

I already banned MFA sites, any other suggestions? Thanks.

It's that kind of attitude that stops people from becoming that successful.

You should never be satisfied, and always strive to get better. Otherwise you'll quit too soon and possibly miss out on the big prize.

lordvader, I think it would depend on what your videos are like.

What sort of videos do you have on your site?

    It's not a niche site.

    Funny, shocking, cool etc.

That's probably why. It's very general "funny" stuff... I get about the same earnings on my myspace site (free backgrounds, free layouts, etc. produces basically cheap ads) but I have a niche video site that is averaging anywhere from $0.30 to $0.50 a click.

Not sure how your site is setup but...
Try optimizing your titles and descriptions (within the page content not meta/title tags) so that they suit the video rather than just putting "funny video" "hilarious", etc...put something like "This guy gets thrown over a fence and catches a football in the eye."

    Good luck.

Hmm... I guess than it can't get any better than it already is. I have it all SEO optimized, descriptions are pretty detailed with carefully chosen keywords etc.

So a CPC at about 0.05 is pretty normal for such a site in your opinion?

From my experience yes. But I think it also depends on what your videos are about. Maybe you are also smartpriced?

To be honest then, if your videos are not targeted, I would take Google Adsense down and find more...umm, "inappropriately targeted" forms of advertising.

And mix in a few videos that would otherwise violate Google's TOS to keep traffic up.

Yup, you're probably better off going after some more adult orientated affiliate programs as MrPoloShirt said. Start off with the old AdultFriendFinder ads but you should experiment, with that sort of traffic you must find something that converts better. Think of who your visitors are and what they would be interested in, maybe try some ringtones, t shirts or free ipod CPA offers?

The key here is titles and description of your videos. Try to make at least one sentence long your descriptions. I've done this on my website and it helped.

Hehe. Yes that would be something seeing them nekkid bodies and all... But for many reasons that is out of the question. (though I imagine, revenue at such a untargetted site would go up).

Another question about smart pricing. I have three such sites (domains) on my Adsense account. Does Smart pricing hits specific domain or entire account? Do I in latter case move other domains (that are not "smart-pricing-prone") to another account?

What about other options like switching at the "non-niche-just-plain-general-funny-videos" site to any other Adsense alternative (e.g. one of those, listed here: http://www.threadwatch.org/resources/advertising/contextual/adsense/alternatives)?

    Already doing this.

Good descriptive title

Longer description here in a sentence or two.

    Even provide some keywords here..

    Even using descriptive links.

So I don't think CPC could be improved from this perspective. Served ads are all pretty much relevant.

From what I have read on here smart pricing effects the whole account.

It's worked for me, even that I'm not using section targeting.
You can also try www.optmedia.com and http://www.zangocash.com you can make few bucks from this.
