Someone told me my site's content was "overwhelming"...

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by mike323, Oct 6, 2006.

...and that it "takes a long time to load". :(

But I have seen sites that have a ton more content than I and they weren't slow loading for me..

    This is my site:

Does it look like it has too much content or is slow loading for anyone?

Nope, your site loads fast enough for me (DSL-line)
I guess maybe that visitor had an old dialup connection

Took me about 2 seconds to load....

Got a lot of links there, that can easily become overwhelming.

Took 71 seconds on dialup here - 52k connection. mmm, yeah Mido's kinda right there. those images could be compressed a little more. would make a big difference. would have to make me REAL interested REAL quick to stay on your site. Maybe make the home page a little less "graphic", eh?

    this will sound silly but

i've never compressed images before. how do you do it? does that involve saving them with different extensions like jpg that degrade image quality?

No it mainly uses different algorithms to put the images together... It can degrade image quality if you compress them to much, but you should be able to compress them rather well without even noticing a change...

And it did take me awhile to get to your page (it loaded fast but it took like 10 seconds to find the host i think)...

Strange, most other pages are rather fast here.

It's all about padding around paragraphs, line spacing, etc. You need to create some visual "breaks" so that your visitors can view your site in nice chunks.

I can index less articles, Kaptain.... right now I index 10 articles a page ... but I can do 5 ... you think I should index 5?... whata ya think? It's not much more scrolling than your site, Kaptain.

EDIT: My mistake...I thought you meant my site..

The site doesn't load pretty fast for me on DSL in Europe - very slow I can say comparing other sites.

I'd just compress the pictures a little more. Should be able to at least compress them by half and not lose any details. You can use PSP free trial to compress your photos or download a free compression tool

well ... I don't think your site loads too slow, but if you think it is slow you can optimize images to load even faster.
