    Hi all.

I came across this site the other day (while, funnily enough, trying to find out how to bake a potato):

    http://www.howtobakeapotato.com

Are these sort of sites, where someone has bought a domain name and put up a site dedicated to one single question, successful with adsense? Is anyone here running sites dedicated to a single question? Are you having much success using adsense?

    I have a couple...

    www.cpmcal.com
    www.free-accounting-software.com

Definitely profitable, meaning it covers yearly domain and hosting fees. While the profit amounts are not all that great, the profit percentage is pretty decent.

    Yes they work.
Remember its the individual pages that make you money.. so having 1 page makes no difference ;)

    Thanks for the responses.

A related question though. Suppose I started site called www.how-to-skin-a.com, and added a sub page for each animal. Would that fair better in SERPS then a bunch of sites like www.how-to-skin-a-cat.com etc?

The real advantage behind multi-page sites is being able to optimise different pages for different groups of keywords. Also you can use internal link structure to your benefit and increase your backlinks.

I have a site exactly like this: http://www.howtoproperly.com

I do get some traffic from Google, but only for the exact topic (how to use chopsticks, how to run correctly, etc) and never people searching for "how to properly" do anything else I haven't written about.

I have to make more pages in order to make it profitable.

The more pages, the more traffic from search engines. Simply because it has diverse keywords to get found by searchers.

It doesn't mean 1000-page site beats 1-page site in term of SE traffic, just want to emphasize that you write more, you earn more.

More page will be better. Putting all egg in the basket will be risky. To have more site, that's more chances to rank high in search engine. Of course, more domain and more site will be much better. Focus on different segment, keywords, age, zone, etc.

I don't think you would make a killing with these one page AdSense websites. I would be interested in knowing roughly how much you make per year if you do have these one page sites.

If you pick the right topic and intergrate the ads well you can definitely be making $10+/day from just one page.

The potato site could have been more than one page.
    It could have been;
    1. select the type of potato, qualities of each type, how to buy them
    2. prepare your potatoes, possible variations
    3. bake the potato
    4. bake the potato, microwave alternative
    5. twice baked potato recipe
    6. eat the potatoe, with topping variations
    7. potato jokes

i have a few one page sites and they work OK
considering the fact that the hosting for a 1 page site is free and the domain is $7/year The ROI is good enough

I do not think it is a question of whether or not you should create a one page site versus a multipage site.

The bottom line is whether or not the one page sites that are being create are profitable on a yearly basis after subtracting expenses to create the site.

So if you can create a one page site and by the end of the year it is profitable over the cost of the domain name and monthly hosting, then it is a successful venture, even if the profit is relatively small.

This question should be asked for each new one page site that is created.

That is the only issue. Then all you have to do is create 1000 or 10,000 more of them, and as long as they meet the criteria of showing a profit on a yearly basis, you will be ok... and rolling in the dough also I might add :)

basically its profitable if you do it right and make sure you have good content on that one page that will either keep people coming back or keep people interested to stay longer
