    Hi everyone :)
I am new in this forum. I want to ask a question to you all.
Does the hosting services affects any website's ranking or popularity?
I mean does it matter for SEO point of view that site is hosted on UNIX Server or Windows Server?
Please help me to find the answer if any one of you can.

    Thanks
    Sunil

I don't think it will matter to SEO.

In terms of hosting the only things that matter are:
    1) the hosts IP addresses aren't listed as generating SPAM
    2) the webserver you're using shows webpages quickly to visitors and search spiders.

Google's Webmaster Tools can show you how quickly your pages load; check it out to ensure your host's servers are working properly...

No problem. Just ensure your host's webserver is staying online and you shouldn't have any SEO problems. If their server is going offline intermittently you may want to find a new host.
Why? If Google's bots visit your site and it's always down, they may lessen your rank (or remove temporarily) as they may think site is offline permanently. Plus they won't want to show links for sites that may or may not be available.

Long as the host is fast and doesn't support hacking/adult sites then you should be fine.

No it doesn't. Unless your server will be up and running 99% of time.

    Hi sunilseo

Sure you may change it but add 301 redirect to the new site and you won't lose your PR and etc. You may read more about 301 redirect here

One of Google's newest factors they consider when ranking a website is the speed in which the web pages load, an unreliable or host that is slow to respond could effect ranking.

With regards to Unix or Windows hosting, that all depends on what your website will need. For most normal websites you will go the Unix route. If your website will require ASP you will want to go the Windows route. If you are putting up a normal html, PHP or Wordpress site, Unix is the way to go.

It has not issues with the ranking of website! unless if your hosting got some serious issues related to Virus or Worms then search engine wont transfer much traffic towards your site! because it will display HARMFUL Security message that can loose Visitors activity from Search Engines
