Found in a freelance forum and the signal of the beginning of the end for Digg

Description: I was wondering if someone here has a service that promotes digg stories so they get to the frontpage. not looking for digg only but also for other social news sites.

Sad statement that few can do anything without cheating

 

This isnt new. People have been doing so since digg launched.

There are already digg clubs and those had a highlight about 6 months ago. Digg is still doing well. What you saw is just a confused n00b.

 

Well I have to admit I played a bit with Digg very early on...but for the most part I skipped the whole thing as I saw it as a short lived fad.

Do you have an example of a digg club? I would be interested in learning more.

 

You know what, I wish I saved the URLs. However, I am pretty sure someone else can share if you wish. There was a couple mentioned on this forum that required an invite.

 

Ya, I've read about those digg club how the top stories are always digged by the same group of people in the exact same sequence. Funny I did a search on digg itself and nothing came out... must've been filtered off at the background.

 

They've been pretty good at Digg in preventing this kind of spam infiltration so far. There have been a ton of attempts to find ways to manipulate or inflate diggs from the start but they seem to pick up on trends and such quickly then address them. I've really been impressed with their efforts on this. I guess my question here is what leads you to believe some post in a freelance forum signals the end to their diligence?

There's probably hundreds of these Digg clubs/rings around, just like the AdSense click buddies. Nothing new and I doubt they're on the rise. Digg has pretty wicked algo's to deal with it and quite frankly, getting Dugg isn't all that lucrative. You get your server smashed losing your face to real visitors, you get to foot the bandwidth bill, you get no increased revenue.

 

Digg have the best spam filtration systems on the web IMO. The only stories getting to the front page are those submitted by the top 100 users and anything else is buried.

Anybody remotely associated with spam is banned for life by IP address, email and username.

They even hunt through forums like DP and ban everybody who talks about digg.

It's not a good thing, the only stories that get to the top are those submitted by the 'official' Digg club

 

Digg have got a perfect closed system in which spam will very rarely reach the front page. I think google will end up with this in a year or two when they get the trustrank right. SEO is going to be great for some and crap for others once google catches up with Digg.

 

Having a closed system if fine as you're guaranteed to be spam free, however it also have the drawback of not giving new potentially better users/sites a chance.

 

Quite right. Digg don't seem to care too much about this though.

 

Digg isn't all that great. I'd rather have targetted visitors that want to visit more than just one page.

 

Doesn't it reqiure a high member of digg approve to get one the front page? That's what i heard

 

No,it's a shame. If it stays that way then I can see most people losing interest if they never get their stories Dugg.

 

If you get dugg by a high member then it requires less diggs to get to the front page. If it is all new users it requires significantly more.
