maybe a stupid question, but what is "Spending on links?" I saw people spend $100 or $200 on links? I don't know what that is.. what kind of links? Is it the same like manual directory submissions?

I spend about 9.99 usd for the domain for the whole year, then about 10 usd a month for the hosting. The advertising I do through free ways.

invest in time. pay money to get things done ...this is much faster.
Buy links, hire people to do things u don't know and this should do the job. keep working... treat your site like your baby and you will see the difference.

Think big as you will see bigger result.. i don't invest my time to see worthless results or outcome.. i do it to see great results other wise i will quit the whole internet business issue.

I tend to not spend a lot, just $10 for domain, chuck it onto one of my servers.

Some of the things I do spend $ on - but this varies site to site

    Press Release $40-100
Purchased links - up to $100
    directory submissions - $20
    Article + article submissions - $50
    Scripts - $50
    Logo/ Header $50

Now, I generally create most sites myself, and pay for some parts to be done for me. I write most of my own content, that way I know it is unique.

Yes, time is money, and I usually spend at least 20 hours before I launch a site, and then of course several hours maintaining it. My time is valuable, and that is why I opt to pay for some services/tasks that can be done by others. It is simply not that I cannot do these tasks, but it is cheaper to outsource some things than do it myself.

So, for a new smallish site, where I was creating all the content my budget would be $200-500.

Spending the money is worth it if you have a viable business plan in place. If you know you'll make money on what your are spending then you should be spending it.

Therefore, the question isn't how much you should spend on a site. The question is do you have enough knowledge? Get the knowledge first, then spend the money. Give yourself an education by spending very little and playing around for a year or two. Spend time on gaining as much knowledge as possible.

Then start slow. Gamble a little more money as your knowledge grows. Only spend as you earn and always spend less than you earn.
