    I would recommend Article Friendly article directory script. I think it is one of the best ones around, lot of useful features that you need for a good cms. But some of the wordpress article sites I have seen are also very good.

    Wordpress can also do this. Just you have to invest/search a good wordpress theme for your specific requirement.

    I use PowerSeek for an article Directory and article submissions. If you plan on having many thousands of Articles then I would image that this would be a very good choice.

    You can get the plugin for article directory based on wordpress cms here: articlesss.com/article-directory-wordpress-plugin/

    I have use it for sometime but i leave it because it will kill your hosting or server when articles reached 100K because wordpress platform is not designed for article directory.

    I recommend to use cms or script which designed for article directory site.

    I have found out this article CMS recently though I have not used it till now. It is a creative commons licensed and so you cannot remove their credits but that should be fine if it works out well.
