    Friends as far as I'm concerned are life's greatest treasure and joy.It's good that because of your friends,you no longer have to deal with loneliness.Making friends is easy,there really therefore is no need for anyone of us to be lonely.

    At night it's dark and quiet and this can bring on the onsets of emotions that are somewhat hidden in the daytime,due to being busy with work etc.
    @Agem
    Try playing music or picking up the phone and talking to someone you know when feelings of loneliness come apon you.

    You don't feel lonely because someone loves you and you know it.You are more fortunate than many here.

    The way you wrote it could be you are happy or not happy.But you put a happy face at the end of your sentence,so I'll presume the former.If you are happy then you don't know loneliness,in this we have something in common.
    I have read the threads on here and am still no further ahead as to understanding the concept of loneliness.I only know there are many who suffer from this.
    For me it's all so simple.If you feel lonely either pick up the phone or go and visit someone,be pro active.....problem solved.

    Why should it? There is so much negativity on this forum its ridiculous.

    It also depends on your definition of loneliness.

    You can have friends and always be in a social setting or talking to someone, but still feel loneliness.

    True but there are also people on DP gifted with a good sense of humor,and there are also deep thinkers such as yourself.Interacting with these different personalities can help get people off of themselves,even if only for a short time.This can chase feelings of loneliness away,do you not agree?

    Quite right,only a temporary fix for sure.But even that I believe is better than the despair of loneliness.While I myself do not suffer from this,I have seen the effects in others.Whatever works...even for short term is of benefit I believe.
