Is this my fault?

I got a hosting account with exabytes and i have a viral site where people can refer other people.
Today morning i just recieved a email that my site was involved in spam and they shut my site down.

It's probably that my members send many emails and this is also my fault?
I myself didnt spam anyone and even if it's my members spamming its also outside my control and this is also my fault?
Is creating a successful viral site also my fault?

    Anyone experienced this before?

yep you are some how responsible for it,
spammers are always on the move to look for spamming some way or other, you have to monitor activity of your website.
its obvious they will shut it down, since they dont want other websites to be affected coz of 1
you have to take care of all activities happening in your website and keep a track of it.
there is nothing much a host can do about it.

If your members are sending spam from their own e-mail accounts then there isn't anything you can do about it and shouldn't be held responsible for it.

If the spam is coming from your domain, that's a whole other question.

I can't imagine that your host would want you spamming regardless of your account type.

Email your Web Host and explain to them. You should however make rules about spamming on your websites, if your members are spamming continuously with short pointless messages, that is going to get you banned. :p

Because it is originating from your account, you be responsible for its usage. You will inevitably need to find a way which would restrict people from abusing the way emails can be sent. Check and recheck the coding for the script which enables email sending.

Maybe you can get them to sign up in order to send to friends, this way you can validate the account and you have some kind of tracking mechanism in place. Alternatively you can get the script to only send if it is referred by your script and each IP is limited to 1 or 2 emails within a reasonable time frame.

if you make it clear that no members are allowed to spam for the referral system and terminate accounts that do so, no reasonable host would kick you off-- dedicated or otherwise.

er, wait, are you running an affiliate program or is a "send this page to your friend" type email form? if it's the email form you need to patch it up to assure this doesn't happen.
